#2834, "Just finished a turbo install on a 3G GT (long)"

Yesterday was a day well spent.
Starting around 11:00am, and finishing around 1:30am, the install process was not as "bolt on" as Doug from Doug's Dyno Power said it was. there was a TON of fabrication needed, including cutting part of the frame in places, slicing sheet metal, cutting and re-welding piping, among other things. PVC was used in places where the pipes could not fit, and there was a lot of modification needed to the piping that DID fit in order to make it work.

6 or 7 runs to Home Depot and Chase-Pitkin brought at least 50+ dollars in rubber hose fittings, 90 degree elbow fittings, taps for the oil pan, and many other gadgets that were needed to complete the massace.
Good thing we had a hydraulic lift and professional tools, or it would of taken 10 times longer to complete.

There is about an inch of clearance under the car due to the pipes leading from the exhaust manifolds to the turbo, and from the turbo to the cat. (that area also needed a lot of cutting and welding in order to get the pipes to fit properly.

The fuel pump that was supplied with the kit is too big, so the stock pump had to be reinstalled. The FMU is HUGE, but we left it off since the walbro pump wasn't installed.

In the end, after a very long day, the 3.0L V6 was boosting 4psi on a large turbo (roughly the size of a Big16G -maybe a 20G, though it was not officially one of those turbos. It is a Mitsu industrial turbo, but seems to work well in the car. As soon as the new fuel pump, FMU, and new piping is installed (to replace the PVC), the kit should be around 8psi to stay safe, and be in the 290 horsepower range. It cost $3500, and a whole lot of patience emoji

I'm glad I could be a part of the very first turbo install on a 3G Eclipse....though I don't recommend anyone getting the kit until the small problems are fixed and the kit is better prepared.

If nothing else, I now am VERY ready to get a turbo in my car. Either one of the 2gnt kits would go 100 times smoother than this one did, and we still managed to get it on the car. Mr. Hahn, Wyatt, and Sean...you guys might be getting a lot of questions from me soon emoji
