#28121, "Finally got a part of my boost leak taken care of, testpipe, A\F questions (long)."

Well, the story is when I installed my testpipe, I thought it caused my boost gauge to be whack. Well, it turned out that there was a slit in the boost gauge hose. That made me idle at like 2-5 on vac., and hit like 1 psi (barely) at WOT. Now that I fixed this, she idles at 15-17 vac.

I've taken care of that now, and the car itself pulls SO MUCH harder and spools faster with the testpipe on. A definite mod for all you turbo peeps. EGT's are actually a bit cool, maybe because of all those gases not getting too backed up. I can actually hit like 5, maybe almost 6 psi. Where back then I can only hit like 3-4 psi.

But with this came a little problem, I'm not sure if the A\F readings are supposed to be like this since I have a testpipe. When I 1st start the car, it would cycle at like .3xx-.5xx volts, then back. When she is warmed up, she will be at like .6xx-.7xx. At cruising, it will cycle around .8xx. After a couple of boosted runs and cruising for a bit for about 10 minutes, it started to cycle on the normal range at like .1xx-.8xx. AT WOT and boosted, she pegged at like .94x-.96x. My question is, does it take this long for the sensor to warm up with the testpipe??

When I had the cat., when I 1st start her, she would rise to like .7xx, then start to normally cycle even before I pull out of the garage. Now, it seems to take like more time for it to warm up. Thanks guys!!!!!

To me, the testpipe itself made a HUGE difference in terms of performance for the kit. I didn't look if it made it spool at a lower RPM (I'l look tommorow), but it spools SO MUCH quicker. I got the pipe here for 40 bucks, I ordered the 2.5 in. for our cars and NOT for the GST. http://testpipe.com/htmlsite/testpipe.asp?item=Mitsubishi

Also, it affected my EGT's quite a bit. I'm non-intercooled still. But my reason for that is maybe since the gases are escaping that much quicker now, and the flow is faster. It doesn't get backed up like when I had the stock cat., but then again, that's just a theory.

what size piping is your catback system? 2.5"? did it bolt up to the stock 2 and 1/4 dp where it connects to the cat? reason i ask is because i got that yet, and a apexi world sport catback (gst model) so just wondering if it will work.. i plan to get the 2.5" dp which is testing now for the hrc kits... also do we just use stock gaskets on each end of the test pipe?cool

My Borla cat-back is 2.5 inches all the way. I took a measuring tape and made sure that it really is 2.5 in. according to the specs. Anyway, the testpipe bolted right in the stock downpipe and the cat-back piping. I didn't use the stock gaskets though. They wouldn't fit. So now, I'm just running it w\o a gasket. The very tip of each end of the testpipe is bigger than the pipe itself. I guess it's to seal it up w\o using gaskets. It's like a flange or something. Get the pipe man, it made a difference.

P.S. oh yeah, it stinks like a bitch too......

Well if upgrading your exaust to 3 inch helps spool time. Why wouldn't taking out a restriction like the cat have a simlar effect?
