#28078, "Turbo Kit Question"

Im looking to get a turbo kit, roughly around what the HRC stage 2 kit outputs or so. HRC, NER, Star whatever is out there, Which kit would be the best hp to price? Also, has anyone have a stage 2 kit on with the rest of the engine all stock?

Thanks

Me personnaly, I think the star stage 2 is the best bang for your buck. You get a large front mount intercooler with the kit which HRC charges 400 more. Also all the tubing on teh star kit is polished so if your going to build a nice lookin car you would want something like that. Also the stage 2 star kit comes with a external wastegate so you can upgrade or modify the turbo much easier then a internal wastegate. Also the stage 2 kit is like 600 more. Peace

Thanks for the reply. Are there any mods i would need to do if i got a turbo kit or can it all be stock? Also, the star kit, i saw the dyno results and it says stage 2 at 9.5 psi and stage 2+ at 12.8 psi, is the stage 2+ kit have other components or is that just running at higher psi?

Thanks

The dyno sheet for the stage II + includes a built bottom end. W/ a stock motor and a stage II star kit, it's best to run less boost than the 9 psi that the site says. Besides that bare kit, it'd be nice to have an after market cat back exhaust. Also the necessary gauges. There is a post up right now about what gauges and what not should be used to monitor a turbocharged engine. One other thing, if you get a star kit, it would be in your best interest to order an actual K&N filter insteadof the one that comes w/ the kit. The one that they send falls apart kind of quickly.

Yea, guages are a good add one. You can always keep an I on your fuel pressure, Rich or Lean and of course boost pressure. I purchased my 3 cup pod holder and gauges from jcwhitney. Prices seem to be lower then other places. But you should change your exhaust and use thermal wrap on your down pipe. I haven't seen to many people do that and it helps keep your engine bay kewl.
