i was reading up on the apex s-afc because I am getting my turbo kit really soon. i want to eventualy buy one and at the moment i don't understand how to use them. When tuning, they suggest to choose a certain gear and then tune a certain rpm. I'm auto and i was wondering (especially you turbo autos) if it's harder for you to tune since we are auto. I'm guessing the auto would make it diffucult to tune since we aren't choosing the gears and the tranny automatically downshifts once we let off throttle.

One more thing. I'm not sure if it's true but i heard that when we drive our cars actually take off in second gear. Is this true?

ok as for tunning the AFC, it's the same as manual. you just stay in park and rev your specific RPM and adjust how rich or lean you want in LO SETTING. i'm guessing if you're stock internals with stock injectors, then you don't have to lean it out tooo much. i'm not saying that with what i'm telling you will guarantee a good tune, but at idle bring it down till your engine starts to idle a little messed up, then bring it slow per 1% up a few till it gets calm. rev it and let it drop to see if it maintains idle well. then work your way up from 1.5,2k, 3k, 4k, 5k, 6k, 6.5.
when you're satisfied, go and drive it around for a bit and see if the car doesn't react funny. as for HI Setting, it's kinda tricky for that. you gotta fully race your engine at WOT. you should adjust from 3k and up, this is when you really need your A/F guage and EGT. mhen at WOT, make sure it reads from .95~.97 volts and your egt doesn't go beyond 1550f. if you don't have these guages. get them before you go turbo. it's important. but the best place to tune HI Setting is at the highway or a track so you don't run out of room.
other than that that's the way i tune. but i don't understand when you mean to tune dealing with gears. i think what they mean is with the ignition amp which you can advance or retard your timing at a specific gear in a specific RPM. i don't think it has anything to do with your air/fuel mixture.
last thing the turbo kicks in at 3.5k. but i guess ever since i got my manual boost controller, it kicks in a lot quicker, like about 3k even. hope this helps man, good luck tunning! it take practice but you'll get used to it, if you need more help, Corbin here has a good writeup on dealing with tunning your air and fuel system.
