Well the machine shop I have my car at just got done tearing down my engine and found that I blew one of the piston rings and a chunk out of the piston by the ring lands. Anywho this guy is charging me 2700 dollars to build the engine with the machine work and labor. Get this I also have to supply the bottom end parts... WTF??? He is charging 1500 for making the engine(machine, labor) and 600 dollars for valve work and the rest for the parts he is suppling, which is a timing belt, water pump, spark plugs(fag), and new turbo valves (he says) I mean this is crazy and he seemed cool until he tore down my engine and now he is a rude dick.. sucks cause he kinda has me by the balls now... what should I do? I mean I mma go argue with him I know I dont need alot of the stuff he is doing... couldnt he just use my old valves and give them a valve job I mean what are my limits I only want to boost 10-12 pounds safely.... I figure that price is crazy and I am considering just droping a stock engine in and selling the turbo cause together with parts, labor, and pulling the engine its around 4 g's.

this guy sounds full of crap.. i would if i could take it to another place, but hey its already there.. that's a grip of money to spend... i believe you could use your old valves depending on the condition of them and also if you blew its a good idea to replace them, but it seems like this guy is pulling a fast one on you.. i would bring someone who knows about this down to the shop and make sure.. also ask for the old parts just in case you might be able to sell them,,

I would just get new stainless steel swirl polished valves from RRE for 250. They are better than stock. And at 45k miles, my old exhaust valves already weren't in too great of a condition.

Yeah, just tell the guy thanks for finding out your problem, you will take it from here, have him charge you for the teardown, and take it to another place on a flatbed or something...

Yeah actually I had to pay him upfront for taking the motor out and replace it... you guys think I could get the other half of the money back and take the car with the engine already out or should I just take the engine have it rebuilt somewhere else and take it back to him to finish the job and install the built engine?

btw, they are always nice until they have your car and your wallet by the balls.. then they show how they really feel about their customers... best thing to do is play it by ear... if you hear a lot of people say a shop is good, really happy, fast, whatever... always remember that stuff so you dont have to just pick a name out of the book...

Man... you can get a fully build shortblock, balanced & all, from howell for $1899.

he's right, if you gotta supply the parts, plus 2700 for everything, that's almost 4 grand tell him no thank you I'll take my business elsewhere, and call howell.
