Over the weekend while on errand runs, the car would idle weird. Mainly when I come to a near stop for a light, the RPM would drop below 2-300rpm, but quickly rise to about 600.

tonight while coming home from work, I threw the AT into Neutral on a decline, and the RPM completely dropped to 0. The oil light came one, and the motor stalled.

Upon pulling the car to the side, I performed a key dance. Got code 55. Everything seemed normal. Started the car back up and drove home carefully.

When idling the car down, I noticed the Corbin gauge read 0.002 (unusually low), so I immediately checked the connection. Nada... went back to the dash, and the guage was fine.

Anyways I can rule out my battery as the eye is green, and Greddy TT yield a 13.02 volts.

fule pressure is a rock steady 50psi, no leaks and haven't touched the fuel system since it has been running. All connection looks good.

PLug wires and plugs are replaced with NGK blue and 7 series plugs

Tomorrow I will pull the plugs to check gaps. But for tonight, I removed the negative terminal in hopes to wipe out the ECU memory.

Car is a 97 RS AT with a HAhn kit at 55600K miles.

what do you guys think can be wrong? fuel, o2, MAP, tranny, starter, alternator, ...etc?

Any help or a list of things to look for will be greatly appreciated. Hope some of you can point me int eh right direction.

Well the oil light is odd. What is code 55? I would start with the oil system because that light reacts to oil pressure correct? mabye on the decline your oil went to the wrong side of the pan or something. Don't take this the wrong way but does it have a good oil level?

Well the oil light came on because the engine died. Thats perfectly normal. Check your o2 sensor, and your map sensor voltage clamp. I and others have had probs with that lately. Could be a prob with your idle air control motor too..

How do I go abou checking if I have a faulty map sensor, Clamp and a IAC?

Will pull the O2 when I get home.

check your idle air control solenoid. that may be bad. that is what controls your idle speed. also yank that o2 sensor and see if it is all fouled. .002 volts is low. measure your map sensor voltage with the car on but not started and see if it is close to 4.5. other than that i dunno what it could be. is the idle rough or just real low? i'm kinda leanign towards the idle air control motor. take it out and clean it up and put it back in. that seems to work for alot of people.

if its none of that it could be something as simple as bad gas... or a clogged fuel filter.

James, the idle was really low. So low that a few times it feels like it is goign to die out.

my iac was off by a little, for example say its sopose to be 4.8 and it was 4.9. i talked to a tech a mitsu and he said, dont waste your money since its controlled by the ecu.. should i go ahead and change it anyways? its pretty expensive.. also if my iac was too high would this cause a bad idle and a cel of system to lean?

James should be right. I have a very similar problem with the car idling low at stoplights with the car dying at times. It definitely should be the IAC. I haven't had the time to clean mine out, but I will soon.

Karl, so has it been running since the last time it died? what is you tempory fix? if any?

Over this thursday I helped Eric install his Big greddy FMIC, Big 16G, ported EVO 3 manifold, and EVO 3 O2 housing., pretty cool. Pulls hard and chirps 3rd. Need injectors to push boost to 17 - 19ps.

I used to have that problem. I tok off the throttle body and cleaned it out with throttle bnody cleaner. I also removed the IAC which is under the throttle body and cleaned that of too. And dont forget to clean the IAC hole in the throttle body. After cleaning everythng out my car never died again.

Kaiser, how often does your car die? My dies once in a blue moon, but I can notice that it wants to die more often. The temp fix that I did a while ago was to adjustthe idle screw on the throttle body. I will hopefully clean my IAC soon. I had to do it already for my Mom's Camry. Good luck!

Wow, I can't believe Eric put up all that stuff at once! I knew he got the FMIC, but I was unaware of the others. I definitely got to check it out with Mike one of these days.
