Ok guy's I just replaced my head gasket about 1000 miles ago with the new MLS HG. I was driving my car today with the A/C on and the temp guage started to rise to 3\4 of the way up. I have redline watter wetter but it still did it. I turned off the ac and it would go up and down till I pulled over. When I pulled over I looked at my coolant tank and theres oil in there. Now when I changed the HG I didn't back flush the coolant system so the coolant that was in the block was still in the engine. If I turned the water pump while the head was off you could hear the liquid. So anyways there was oil in the coolant when it origanlly blew and I'm hoping this could be just some more oil that was still in the coolant passages of the block when I replaced the HG. Because when I replaced the coolant I put some Water wetter in the overflow tank and it just recently cycled into the coolant system and then the oil showed up.I was going to check compression but I don't have any previous #'s to guage it on. When I did the HG I ground down the corner head bolt about 3mm so it could get the proper torque. I'm not seeing any oil on the tranny either. where should I go from here? The car feels strong should I get the coolant system flushed and then see if the oil comes back? Should I empty the overflow tank and see if the oil comes back?

So how do we go about flushing the coolant system on these things? Can I get away with one of those do it yourself at home kit type things or should I just take it to someone and get a BG coolant flush? I'm thinking go with the cehmicals so I get out as much oil as possible.

Yea I changed it myself Vert. It's real easy to do. This was the first major repair I had ever done myself. I had never pulled a head off an engine in my life. With the right instructions and some board members to keep my head on straight (thanks Corbin & Dino) I got it all done. I havn't had a problem since either except this one which I know is not really a problem just a re flush issue. I will keep you posted in case I did screw up though. If your planning on doing it your self have a shop manuel and a write up on the timing belt and access to this site, you'll be able to do it just make sure to leave yourself time to complete it.

Sweet, looks like this is something I am gonna accomplish, how many hours do you guess it took? I use my car on a daily basis and wouldnt be able to go without it for more than 3 days....

You can get this done in three days you just have to work pretty fast if it's your first time. It took me a 2 weekends one of them was a 3day weekend. But I had a bitiching girl friend and alot of other stuff going on. The procdure books 8 hours at the shop. I also had to fight with turbo stuff and all to get everything out and broke a couple of things while I was in there. You'll do fine as long as you have all the info you need at your fingertips. This board is great but I would print out all the info you need before you start. I'll see if I can find most of the communications that I had about it. But go to the main site and print out the timing belt write ups. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-2G-NT.html http://www.geocities.com/eclipsed4evr98/Timingbeltprocedure.html and there is one for the valve cover if you need it. If you have any other questions feel free to hit me up bro.
