Well Ive got a question. I hear of people running 10psi w/ upgraded injectors and a stock bottom end and I was wondering if it is as safe to do that as it is to run 8psi with the stockers. I mean I know its more punishment on the stock bottom end, but if your EGT's are under 1600 is it still pushing it/ok? TIA

Well IMO, 8 psi should be rather safe for the stock motor, assuming you have proper fuel and good tuning, compression, ect..I have heard people blowing motors with 8 psi, and i have heard people running in excess of 12 psi on stock internals without failure. IMO, 10 psi with good tuning might be the max *safe* limit on stock motor. Hahn's website said the stock motor failed in testing at 350-375 HP. Psi wise, that would be around 18-20 psi? Thats what i read anyway. I do believe a guy on here has used the stock rods with forged pistons, and kept bending rods at 13 psi i believe. I think the first weak link in our motors is the rods. Second is the pistons/rings. 8 Psi should be rather safe, and 10 psi should be the limit.

Actually, I think piston/ring is the first weak link and the rod comes after. Tommy is the guy you're talking about and he has Wiesco pistons on stock rods. The rods start bending at ~13psi.

Haha, yeah Tommyboy was it. Its hard to tell how much stock pistons/rings woulda lasted him, cause he had the forged ones...but i still think 10 psi is not out of the question with proper tuning and fuel. Well i will do my own testing on this myself later on this fall when i can get a daily driver/winter beater, so i dont have to worry about a car if i blow it up! emoji I'll be another quinne pig :o

Yeah, I think 10psi will work... but like a ticking timebomb. Some engines will last a couple years and some will only last a couple weeks.

I think you would need to specify what size turbo you are thinking of running. for example 10 psi its "more dangerous" for internals in a Star Kit than a HRC Kit.

10psi of boost is 10psi of boost is 10psi of boost. The reason 10psi with a Star kit may possibly be "more dangerous" than an HRC or NER kit has to do with other variable such as temperature, velocity, etc.

We went over this before on this board. 10psi of boost isnt the same on all turbos. Heres an example...

If you have a t88 turbo at 10 psi and a t25 turbo at 10 psi do you think they are going to make the same hp on the same car? They wont. The t88 would flow a LOT more air and make a LOT more hp at the same boost level. Its not only air pressure but air flow that makes the hp. And a T3T4 turbo can not run as much boost safley as a s16g can becuase it makes more hp at the same boost level.

I realize that 10psi of boost of the S16G isnt gonna be the same as 10psi on my T3/TO4E or even the same as on a normal T3/TO4 for that matter, how much boost are you star guys pushing on stock internals? One more thing that crossed my mind, will the larger trim turbos, such as E and S, take longer to spool than the normal trim. I think that it would, but am wondering what you "experts" think about it. TIA

Which would hurt worse? Getting hit in the face with a 100psi(pounds per square inch) squirtgun or a 100psi fire hydrant?

Hint: Squirt gun FLOWS .001 inch x 100psi = 0.1 squirt pounds
Hint: Fire Hydrant FLOWS 4 inch x 100psi = 400 squirt pounds
