#27217, "I'm boosting 5lbs with No VC1"

So I did a little work on my car over the weekend. I fixed the fuel line crimp that goes from the FPR to the fuel filter. Then I took off the VC1 and reset my ECU. My car can still boost the same with no fuel cut!!..I 1/2 throttle it and watch the boost go to about 4-5psi and I can feel the pull so I know it gotta be boosting. I haven't full throttled it yet. The only check valve I used was one, inline to the EGR. Anyone what could be allowing me to do this??...bad MAP, boost leaks? Thanks

i boosted 8psi without any sort of fcd on my car for about 3 months until my fpr started to malfunction (causing fuel cuts) and i got a missing link b/c i thought that was the problem (which it wasn't). nobody was ever able to explain to me why my car worked fine w/o that part, but it did. i just left it on there b/c i read on armond's website that w/o it the ecu messes w/ timing etc and you actually get some hp by having it on there. that and i didn't want to return it, prolly helped things in the long run.

There mitseclipse, see you got in first post ... emoji

All the VC1 / FCD does is block signal to the MAP sensor, in case it freaks out the ECU by going over voltage right? The ECU can handle overvoltage and weird numbers sometimes. Some people on here were running for months without any kind of MAP protection cause they didn't even need it until they turned up the boost. The Missing Link would definitely help prevent damage to the MAP sensor though in the long run.

Your MAP sensor is not made to read boost. It shouldn't read above 0 b/c it's not made to. However, occasionally it will read a signal above and that's when the computer will tell it to cut the fuel. Mine would only do it when I was fairly low rpm in a higher gear (4th or 5th) and you punched it and held it for a bit. It would buck a little bit. I didn't really push the issue too much to find out what would happen if I kept the peddle down after I felt it the first time. I finally got the FCD in and have never had the problem since. If you had a MAP sensor that gave the same voltages in vacuum as our stock sensor, but it also read on up into boost, you would/should get fuel cut every time. It's not unusual that the car runs just fine without the fcd. They're more of a precaution than a necessity.

There was a guy here locally who ran 4-6psi for a while with no FCD. Never had a problem.
