#25356, "car died again... need help..."

i took Adams advice, and hard wired the pump, thinking my problem from http://www.asog.net/bbs2/viewtopic.php?topic=23434&forum=29&21 was a bad fuel pump relay.

well, even with the pump hard wired, the car died again today. when i reconnect the pump back to stock i get no fuel pressure. when i hard wire the pump, i get fuel pressure, but car still doesnt turn over.

motor cranks and cranks, so its not seized or anything, and there plenty of juice in the battery.

i was by myself so it was hard to check for spark w/o someone to try and crank it over for me, but now the car is parked at a Target parking lot bout a block away, so i cant check now, but i dont think its getting spark either.

any ideas?

ecu?

im worried bout my car being parked a freakin mile down the road emoji

btw, when i tried to do the keydance, no codes would come up. not even the 55

also this time, the car wasnt able to restart after sitting for a while. before it would take like 10-15 min, this time, the car sat for over 2-3 hrs while i went back to work, and wouldnt restart when i came back to it

Check every fuse you have something connected to. and check all the major motor fuses, if you havent already. lastly, do the dreaded compression check to see whats up there, to rule that out. im guessing its just a short somewhere.

alright check it out, i know this might not help much but:
the last car i had before this 96 rs eclipse was a piece of shit early 80's weak ass v-6 camarslow. i had the same problem as you basically it sounds like. sometimes it wouldnt start. it would turn over, it just wouldnt start. and it eventually got worse and didnt start up at all, but it always turned over, unless you drained the battery by starting it over and over of course. well believe it or not, it was the alternator. different car, but hey its osmething to look into. it has to be ignition related im sure. and when it would not start up my camarslow also did not have any spark when we checked when it would not fire up.

Check the harness connector at your crank angle sensor. If that comes loose, it'll die on the spot.

might be a bad connection on the afc, or maybe even a faulty regulator....or maybe a bad crank/cam sensor.

Possibly a wire has gotten loose at the MAP sensor as well. That would create the same problem.

Sensors, sensors, sensors.... :-P

wow, thanks for all the replies emoji

current update..went bck to the car w/ my friends truck and some 1/4" nylon rope, lol. car still wouldnt start, so we pulled the fawker home.

pulled it all the way home, then pushed it up into my driveway, just for shits and giggles, tried the key, and bam, first crank, car started right up

these inconsistent problems are the worse :/

didnt check anything out tonight tho. when it started right up, i got so pissed, i just left it and went to the bar with some friends, lol

work tomorrow 11-9, so friday will be the first chance i have to look at it. ill be sure to check out all suspisions 1st emoji

thanks guys

edit--
since the car seems to turn over fine RIGHT NOW, i do get the usual 12 and 55 codes from the engine w/ the keydance. but when the car wont start is when i get no codes

Definitely sounds like the wire gremlins to me, Ryan. Make sure to especially check out the SAFC connections. Especially that one that goes inline between the MAP in and out.

Another thing to check is crank angle sensor harness that runs near the egr pipe. If that harness is melted (shorted) to the egr pipe, you car won't start. The fact that the problem is intermittent sounds like some kind of electrical/connection problem--just as what the other guys have mentioned. Sometimes the harness near the egr/pipe sags or whatever and the hot egr pipe will melt through the wire looms.

this damn car...ive been trying to duplicate the problem...had the car idling for 20min, then drove it around for 20 min, now its been idling for over 20 min... running for over an hour, and no problems...

could it be weather related? its been extremely wet lately, and today is the first day i havent driven in the rain...hhmmm
