OK.... As i have been getting very few resonses about ANY type of clutch, I ahve decided to go with the Cluchmasters despite their pricing (Whew!).
I just have a few question, and would be VERY greatful for some answers...anything. Especially from HRC is possible (after all you are the reason chose them!)
I have a Hahn Super16G setup with the FMIC option. I have uprated internals going in (JE, Crower) ported head etc.. Basically I am aiming for the BIG horsepower!
Here are my questions: - Which Stage Clutchmasters, 3 or 4? - Are they daily driveable (Even Chicago rush hour traffic stops etc..around town)? - Life expectancy (How often do I need to change clutch..)? - Will they mate to a fidanza (or other) ligthened Flywheel? - I have an early '95 (Made in Oct '94) does that make a difference? - Are they noisy (I don't care about noise, just curious)? - Any comments?
Thank You and much appreciation,

Maybe I can help out a little here.
>Here are my questions: >- Which Stage Clutchmasters, 3 or >4? I would recommend the stage 3. Keep this in mind, the stage 5 is the highest stage and it is essentially an on/off switch. Stage 4 is gonna be just a step below this. Also, Clutchmaster rates the stage 3 for holding 350hp at the crank. I was told that this is a low estimate, meaning it could hold a little more.
>- Are they daily driveable (Even >Chicago rush hour traffic stops >etc..around town)? Clutchmaster claims that both clutches are fully streetable. I've felt the stage 4 and it's a very aggressive engagement, but not one you wouldn't get used to.
>- Life expectancy (How often do >I need to change clutch..)? The stage 3 will have the longest life expectancy. It is what they advertise as their street clutch. > >- Will they mate to a >fidanza (or other) ligthened Flywheel? They will mount to a flywheel. Keep in mind though, the modular set-up comes with a flywheel in the assembly. If you are planning on using a lightened flywheel, you should go with a non-modular set-up. > >- I have an early '95 >(Made in Oct '94) does >that make a difference? I'm pretty sure the 95 came with a non-modular clutch set-up.
>- Are they noisy (I don't >care about noise, just curious)? I was told by Clutchmaster that the stage 4 will have some chatter at lower RPM. I think it all depends on your driving style. > > at 10psi Boost....
Maybe this helps, maybe not. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks for the reply man....
I am literally pulling my hair out...post after post on the archives of people saying the stock clutch is the best.... And unfortunately, that is my experience too! It held 15psi boost for (a minute period of time, and then I let off the gas - stock internals!) and it has also held up to ALL my turbo drag race passes (70+ passes!)....And a million street races.
ARRRGHH!!! I am so confused. The clutchmasters it seems doesn't last for more than a year??? A year????? Only?
I dunno anymore. This is truly annoying though.

Well thats how long my stage 3 lasted (1yr) but I think it had to do with the clutch slave cylinder leaking (the next clutch lasted about 3 month before the cylinder gave all together). Anyway the stage 3 feels just like stock (smooth as silk). Mine never slipped with nitrous. Loved it until it went (even on its last leg I could do burn outs and it held in the 1rst 3 gears). stage 3 clutches are made from kelvar and the main advantage of this is extended life so CM claims a much longer life with the stage 3 than 4. The stage 4 is metal and holds more power (cheaper too) but isn't designed to last long. People who have it say its a little jumpy but certainly streetable. As of yet CM hasn't made a stage 5 for our cars (and who would need it). They are modular so you wont need any flywheel. If your car came with a non modular clutch you will need a driveplate from a modular or auto car. My guess is your car has a modular. My 95 was made in 94 too and it had a modular (you can tell by a letter in the vin. see your mitsu parts dealer for info). My stage 3 started life as a Sach super set. Dont know if all stage 3 start with the same clutch. STage 3 requires an extended break in period. Stage 4 barely any.

I drive around on a Unorthodox Racing Stage 1+ clutch...and even though the chatter is disgusting...and engagement is harsh, it is still streetable. It's a 4 puck disc with an unsprung hub. If CM made a stage V for our cars, i am guessing it would drive very similar to this...IE..on off switch. The only thing that worries me about this setup is that the pressure plate isn't a stronger one than stock, so i am not sure how much boost it will really hold. I am hoping it will hold the 14 that i plan to push through it real soon. But we will see i guess. And as for a fidanza flywheel, i wouldn't recomend it. It makes the RPMs drop off so quick that the computer can't compensate and open up the ISC motor, and my car stalls all the time because of it. It does rev a hell of a lot quicker though which is nice.
