#24808, "I have an idea for greater cooling through the side mount IC....."

Well i was talking with matt95tgs, and he said that since i have my sidemount ic mounted at a slight angle, that the airflow may not be as good through it..Any thoughts on this? The ic is in front if the opening on the bumper, but it tilts slightly downward..This is my thought.... If i can find a small fan, and custom make a little shroud to go with it, and then mount that to the back of the IC, this would give MUCH better airflow through the IC, and provide excellent cooling over normal air going through it. It would act much like a cooling system radiator set up really. By doing it this way, i can mount the IC closer to the engine and not have to be right in front of the opening in the bumper, since all of the airflow will be drawn into it. So what you guys think of this? Has this been done before? I would think this would be far superior for the greatest cooling of the intake charge. I just may try this befor i get the piping made..

Sounds like a great idea to me... any way to move more air directly at the IC is good. Post pics if you make that shroud!

Well i took out the IC today, it was just buggin me how it was mounted. I played around with the positioning some again, and found a good way to put it. The pipe that was on the bottom is now on the top, vise-versa. The IC will be nice and straight now, with good airflow. I was looking into a fan to get, and found a 6.5" fan that pulls a max of 440 CFM's. I have no clue as to what cfm rating i will need for something like this..Anyone have a good idea? The fan is made by Spal, and is 45 bucks at my cost. I still think this would be a great way to get maximum cooling out of the IC..

I really don't think the fan is worth the extra power it's pulling. Actually, I would save that $45 and put it toward a FMIC.
