#24780, "Finally the rebuild starts question on timming retard?"

Well I finally got almost all my parts from Howell, the rods should be in tomarrow. The car will go in the shop Wed. and I should get it back like next Tues. My question is at what psi do I have to start to retard timming? I thought I read somewere that you need to retard at 15+psi is this right? Cause I want to run about 13psi after the break in so I should be good right? Also one more question, can you run 13psi on stock injectors? Because right now I have the fpr leaned out all the way and I run rich at like 125psi of fuel at about 8pi of boost. I checked the search engine but could not find anything.
Thanks for any help,
Patrick

You said "The car will go in the shop Wed. and I should get it back like next Tues. "

LMFAO!!!!! emoji . Thats what I thought and 6 weeks later I am still without my car! It always takes longer than you think. I hope you get it back sooner but dont get madd when it takes 3-4 times as long as you think.

About your question....You CAN NOT run 13 psi on stock injectors. You cant run over 8 psi with stock injectors if you want your car to last more thna a couple months. And you are right about the timing. 15+ needs to have retarded timing. Get an s-afc and four injectors and you'll be good for up to 15 psi. YOu might want to get a new clutch too. I cant afford one right now so I am going to run 12 psi for a while untill I get enough money for a clutch.

Hey Dave so I need injectors, well can I use any mustang injectors? Can I use like the 42lb mustang injectors? Also how about these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1837176880 can I use them? Will they fit in my car? And can I use bigger injectors on my cartech 1st gen fpr or do I need to upgrade to the vortech s-fmu? Yeah I hear you on getting the car back but the guy doing my engine doesn't have any other cars in his shop right now. And also I am not having any head work done right now, just putting in the howell .20 over kit.
Thanks for the help,
Patrick

I am 99% sure you can use any mustang 42lb injector in our cars. They should all be the same. Just get the injectors and get a s-afc and you'll be set.

The ones you posted a link to are for the 4g63, not for our cars. They wont work. I wish they would becuase I can get 4g63 stock injectors very cheap.

If you are going to do SAFC and injectors to run 15 psi, you should and will need the MSD DIS2 or a crane ignition, because the SAFC messes up your timing from what I have heard.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Dave thanks for the info on the eclipse injectors, well I will probably go with the mustang injectors here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1836695224 I will get these unless anyone says other wise. But do I need to get the vortech s-fmu or will the 1st gen cartech work fine. P.S. does anyone want to go in on these with me?
Thanks for the help,
Patrick

No one else know anything about the SAFC altering timming??
I am wondering because I am waiting till I get my DIS before I install my injectors and SAFC.......
I think you should do the same..

timing depends on what psi you will run, what compression you are using, what size injectors etc.. if your going to run 13psi you want want to get some 370cc-440cc injectors.. you are sopose to pull timing with 15psi+ etc, if you get a msd dis2 ignition retard timing at higher rpm, or if you get the msd programmable which is by boost proportion or by rpm or crane which is by boost pressure. if you get the crane it will start to retard timing once into boost till i believe its 20psi and it levels off...

So if I have 8.5:1 compression, a S-FMU, SAFC, 440cc's, then I can run 13-15 psi??.......safe???

i don't think that would be safe because the SAFC will throw off the timing from what I have heard.

How much can i run with no MSD, but with the injectors and SAFC?
Stay with 10 until I get the MSD right??

well if i remember right there is always a bit of detox going on no mattar what? correct me if im wrong... with 8.5:1 compression and some 440cc you should be cool up to about 15psi... hrc recommends with there setup 881 stage 3+ retard 1/2 degree per psi if you are using the crane ignition... best thing to do is get a ob2 program or throw it on a dyno...
