1. I have rebuilt the motor with eagle rods and wiseco forged pistons 8:5.1 ,same as Tommyboy the ones from cnnp. I still hear an occasional slap even with the engine warmed up! I would suspect this is due to the design of the piston as the stock pistons have some taper to reduce noise.. Is this normal??
2.I cant for the life of me figure out why i only have 13-15 hg of vacuum on the autometer boost gauge at idle mostly around 14hg. I have check vacuum leaks and found none! I have played around with the aem cam gears for the best idle and throtte repsonds intake 1+ exhaust 1-. the car seems to idle pretty good around 850-900 most of the time. granted i only have like 3 miles on the engine.. no miss no hesitation.. I question the accuracy of the autometer boost gauge!? Could this low vacuum be caused by the 8:5.1 pistons??
3.danm pyrometer does not work right since the lead temp wire melted and i spliced it back togather. Know of any url (web address please)that would sell me just the temp lead..
I guess thats about it for now feel free to comment.

You do have lower compression - 8.5:1 That should be about right. I have 8.8:1 compression pistons and mine idles at 16-18 In Hg, with no accessories on.

I get light piston slap at all times at idle with my JE's.. it is far, far quieter when warmed up, but still there.

Wait till it breaks in. it'll get better.

Nope.. The resistance on those lines is typically rated and the gauge is calibrated for it. Don't know what to tell you other than buy a new probe and wire set.
