#2421, "Will the stock exhaust really make my headgasket leak?"

I'm posting it here cause I want everyone to see it.
I'm running on my stock exhaust with my turbo, and I was just told that if I don't change it, that my head gasket will begin to leak? OH MY GOD!!! That sucks cause that's like another $500 dollers. I mean I really want a turbo cat-back but I really don't have the money right now! Do I have to change the entire Cat-back or just the muffler, cause I know some one who will give me a GS-T muffler for FRE emoji

I use to have a White 99 GS Sport with a Star Stage II Ball Bearing T3/T4 turbo...it was fun untill....well those who remember me know emoji Oh Ya...this is what I have now... a 99' GSX...

Hehe... run you stock exhaust with no muffler attached.
shouldn't be too loud. (last resort)

As for the head gasket.. just keep your boost low (5-6psi)..
and avoid boosting for long periods of time.. Other than that
you should be fine.

The only reason I can even think of that would make your exhaust make your head gasket leak would be because of too much back pressure. I have a hard time believeing it though. I've never heard of such a thing, not to say it couldn't happen. If I was you I would run your car and then if the gasket starts to leak, worry about it then.

What I would do is get your friends muffler and have a muffler shop make you some bigger pipes, my friend did that with an Apexi muffler on his mirage. He's working on a custom turbo job and the mirage doesn't have a big source of cat-backs. Hope this helps.

Depending on what stage you're at...ala stage 1, the stock exhaust should do quite well in my mind. Sure, why not get the GS-T muffler to add on. (it looks a hell of a lot better anyways)

Stock GS-T's push out probably an equivalent amount of exhaust intheir cars with a stage 1-2 420a. Also, their exhaust piping is the same. I say go with it... (2.15" stock exhaust piping isn't terribly bad...especially for stock)

I'm with Joe, I've never heard of a faulty HG resulting from too much backpressure.

Thanx!! I am running at 5psi right now with my stage II, so I guess I will be fine. I'll wait to get a better exhaust before I try to up the boost. And plus I kinda like the stock exhaust cause when your behind me it proves that I'm a GS hehehe}>

But there's one thing that I noticed now that I didn't hear before I strapped on the turbo. (I have a GST muffler BTW.)

After the turbo, something along my exhaust pipes rattles more than ever. I've checked all the heat shields, so I really don't know what it is!!

arghhh

could back pressure cause this??
