I am new to all this stage 3 stuff so bear with me. My freind with a 95 GSX has a datalogger that he uses for his car (he runs 11's by the way). He said that we can use his data logger to tune my car. First of all will it hook up to a 420a? I have no idea how to datalog a car or even what to look for. My freind knows a lot about his car but he has a 4g63 but is datalogging a 420a any different than datalogging a 4g63?. What should I be shooting for when datalogging a car? TIA!

its about the same... it should plug in ob2... he should be able to help you.. u got to tune with egt temps a/f as back up... you should try to get your stf low and ltf even lower.. for example on a stock engine with 315 or 440cc stl should be around -2 to +2 and ltf should be around the same or a bit higher lower then 20%...ask your friend for some advice ... i got on my stf -2to+2 ltf -13% wanna run a bit rich for now...but got to retune with my ignition etc etc later when i got time

I didnt know you knew anything about datalogging our cars? If you can help I am going to need it. I am pretty confident Keith knows how to do it. All this is going to happen in about a month or so. probably after I get back from my cruise around the beggining of July.

Your friend's datalogging software and cable should work on our cars, as longs it's OBD-2. I heard you might not be able to see all the different functions that the program can pick up from the 4G63. I've never done one, so I can't confirm that.

OBD-2 is an ISO standard. So it works in all cars 1996 and up, besides Ford and Chevrolet (they don't conform to ISO standards). The plug under your dash is the same, and the protocol used by the car is the same.
You will have different sensors on your car, which are detected and setup automatically when you plug the scan tool in. I think older (OBD1?) tools required you to download a table or configure your car type & sensors first.
You can get a good idea for how "nice" cars really are this way- the Infinity Q series looks great- probably close to twice as many engine and performance sensors as we have. Kinda cool.
hey dude, on the road race program how can we datalog? i need to save a couple runs and look them over after? right now im tuning while driving it's a bit hard hehe
