I got a little boost crazy the other day and might have done a little damage. I was running about 10 psi on the street for an evening (not boosting very often). Matt from the board (XtremeRS) was following me and this punk ass kid and his friends started taunting me in a minivan hahaha. So i just rip off the line and pull like hell... when i look out the rear view window i see lots of smoke... Matt got a good 1st hand look at the smoke since he was behind me and he said that it was all black. This means that I was just running rich hopefully... So anyway the car still feels fine and runs fine that night. The next morning I get in and start it up only to hear a knocking noise. The noise went away after about 15-20 seconds. The car seems to run fine and still pulls well and there is no smoke. No coolent in my oil, oil level is good... It only knocks when the car is cold. Once it gets warmed up (15 sec) it runs like normal. Any ideas...???

Also, it doesnt really make the noise at idle. It really makes the noise louder when a load is put on the engine.

yeah, the smoke was def black, and smelled like a very rich running engine. It was not oil by far, i know that pungent smell too well. He also got a cel code that night, 64, i belive, and was the code for a cat converter failure...if that helps any to those who might know...and 10psi feels sweeeettt emoji

Do the compression test so you can sleep tonight!

I don't really know what kind of damage you could do by running too rich. Too much fuel won't kill it's too little.

I don't know bro. Do the test if it comes up o.k. then I wouldn't worry about it.

That dark smoke followed by that pungent fuel smell sounds like you are running a bit rich. How's the oil level, and pressure? Is it low? I noticed my engine gives off a louder valve lifter-like sound at WOT when my engine oil is a little low, or if the oil is very old (thinned out). Aside from that, I would recommend a compression check, just as Michael 99GS has mentioned in his post. At least, that will give a some peace of mind. Also, check to see that the extra manifold pressure hasn't loosened (blow off) the engine oil dipstick. This could happen, and could amplify that valve lifter-like sound. Just some ideas.

Thanks for the info guys. The oil level is at max, but im not sure about the pressure. I assume its not horrible since the oil light isn't on, but it could be low. I just changed the oil about 600 miles ago with Mobile 1 so im sure its not too old. The exhaust mani gasket is fine and all of the bolts are tight. I've been running it like normal for the past few days and I havent noticed anything different. I'm gonna do a compression test this weekend and see what the digits are. Any more thoughts would be definately appreciated.
