#22966, "EGT Concerns"

I finally got my EGT(Farenheit) gauge working but i am a little concerned by the readings im recieving. Basically i want to know does this seem right or not.

First of all, my EGT probe is in located in the downpipe, right next to the turbo, not in the manifold. Ive been told that i should add 200F degrees to whatever reading i am getting. I was wondering if someone could post some guidelines as to what the EGT readings should be in certain situations? While driving down the interstate last night, going about 80mph and around 3000rpms My gauge showed slightly over 1200..which if you add 200 would be over 1400 degrees. Does that sound right for crusing? While sitting in the driveway of my house to cool down it was at about 950...which would be 1150 at idle. Is my gauge off, or is my car actually that hot?

Its a Star Stage II with FMIC btw, and last night was reletively cool outside.

mines runs about 900 at idle and anywhere from 1100-1400 on the freeway. it will get closer to 1400 after about an hour or so at like 80+

Hey Alex, cruising down I-75, my EGT's run about 1300. Keep in mind that mine has no IC and stock plugs. You and your IC are gay emoji As far as idle and cooling down, mine reads between 800-900. Sometimes if I get lucky, it reads a bit below 800.

those numbers sound about like mine. only problem is the 200 degree thing is only an estimate. you can never be sure how hot you are really running with the probe in the DP. i suggest if you can to put the probe in your manifold. i did the same with mine. just have a muffler shop do a quick weld on your DP and they will probably drill the hole in your manifold for the new tap.

since we are talking about egt's guy's i had a concern too. my egt has never been really close to 1600 but the other day i was coming down 95 and i was in the top of 3rd or 4th (can't remember now) and it did get to like 1590 or so and i shifted. should this worry me? and if i go to bigger injectors (i'm thinking 30lbs)and switch to the 8:1 disc in the vortech (star kit) will this bring my egt's down? I guess what i'm saying is am i maxing out my fuel pump causing the egt's to go up... i have a star stage 2 at 8psi

well to give you an example with my setup. when i was running the stock fuel setup (with star II kit) at 10psi i would hit about 800 celcius (900 is on the edge). when i switched to 500cc injectors with the 3:1 disc at 15psi with my AFC 0% across the board (factory settings) i'm now topping out at only 600 celsius!!. i'm in the process of leaning it out to only hit about 750 celsius.
