I've heard that Turbo kits require constant maintenance and are expensive to do so. Is this true? I ask because my GS is an everyday driver and I don't have the money or time to constantly have to work on it to keep it running.

Sorry...just saw the movie last night. But, its true. Everything is more important when you are pushing that much more power out of the engine. You just have to make sure that everything is in good shape. Then install everything carefully. Then keep up with maintainence. You will have to re-check bolts and make sure your fuel pressure is right periodically. You shouldn't have to work on it all the time. You will probably find yourself working on it to install all kinds of goodies. Having a turbo opens up a world of upgrade possiblilties. You'll look through magazines and say "ooh I need a turbo timer, new gauge, injectors".

if you want something that you can install and never pop the hood again, you dont want boost. i havent had any major problems thus far, but i usually check my oil every couple days, and i check all of my hoses n such at least once a week. because i want to.

It sounds to me like I shouldn't get the turbo. Especially because I won't have the $$$ or the time for much maintenance while I'm still in college. Plus this is my only car and if it were to die on me I'd be screwed. I think the money would be better spent on more reliable mods that need less maintenance. Problem is, I'm not really sure what those are . I'm thinking AEM CAI, Eibach Prolines, new plugs and wires, A'PEXi exhaust (N1 or World?), and possibly a body kit and a completely new paint job. I'm not sure about the body kit though because I hear horror stories about guys having to repaint theirs every 3 months... can't have that! I'll be posting ????'s on the body kit on the appropriate thread.
Info on any other reliable, low maintenance mods you guys recommend would be greatly appreciated.

The maintenance isnt really anything extra. Its just checking the oil. And it helps to know what is going on under the hood so that you can fix the little things like lose vacume lines, boost leaks, and stuff like that.

haven't had any problems since i blew up my motor. (LOL!) that was almost 2 years ago. you just have to do basic maintenence, just with shorter intervals.

Any type of forced induction will require constant maintenance. You just have to be aware of every aspect of your engine (oil pressure, egt, a/f, etc) all the time. Actually, I believe any high performance car will require a lot of attention, especially when you're making more horsepower--more power leads to a greater chance of something breaking or wearing out sooner.

if you want to go faster you need to pay more attention to your car.. im in college now it took me some time to save for the turbo etc... i have had no turbo related probs just crap with the wires getting burned etc... all i got to say its alot better then being non turbo hehe

Hey I'm a poor college student also, I have time to check on it everynow an then. Lets just say if you want your car to last long turbo or no turbo you have to get under the hood periodically. Once you have all the bugs ironed out there shouldn't any probablems with a turbo.

I am a college student, but I have an extra car for when I break the klipz.... which happens from time to time, but I get probably a bit nastier with my car than you would... stage 2 at low boost installed correctly should be no big deal, just change your oil a little more often, and do regular maintance like you always do anyways...
