You can go to almost any mechanic to have a compression test done. Prices will range from $35 to $99 (local automechanic and dealer prices respectively). You can also buy a compression tester for under $40 from Pep Boys, AutoZone, etc... and have the tool to do this again when ever you want. There is a FAQ on the main page so you can learn. Got one myself. Also consider purchasing a leak down tester also. This test will tell you if you are having any blow by due to bad rings. Just my 2 cents...

Do it yourself, it's hella easy! Go to any auto parts store and buy a comp. guage i got mine for like 20 bucks. while your at it get new plugs if you havent changed them in awhile. Also you need help from a friend to either watch the guage or turn over the car each time. Theirs a DIY comp. test (how - to) on corbins site that I used.

Rob a bank! (J/K) get ready to spend some cash cause you may have to replace the following things. Headgasket, Valves guides/seats, pistons or rings. Bad compresion is not good. SEE YA!!!!!!!MWC

Well that is a good question. I would think yes, you would cause "Satan" will say that is part of wear and tear, but if your block cracked or the damaged was caused by a failure in your factory fuel system or cooling, oil system, then you would have a good chance. Remember the dealer gets pennies on the dollar for "warrantied" work performed, so they will try their best to get out of takeing the responability. Just look at our head gasket issue! I think someone else on this board had "Satan" look at their car, and ended up takeing their car out cause they were not going to cover it or the estamite was too much, this only after the car was tore apart, and the dealer just threw all his parts in the back all over the place. Well I would recomend that you "if" you have bad compresion that you be ready to pay to have it repaired your self, and if you can get the dealer to eat it, then great! But if they dont, your car wont be in peices just sitting some where cause you didnt expect to have to pay. Hope that helps. SEE YA!!!!!!!!!!MWC

When I went to the dealer cause a local shop here told me the compression reading they got from one of my cylinders was off by 20 or more psi from the other 3, the service advisor told me he could get covered under warranty, but I had to pay the $99 for a compression check from them to ascertain if it is indeed bad. He said if it is, then he could reimburse me the money and fix the problem under warranty. My car didn't exhibit any signs of bad cylinder so I went back to the shop and had them recheck before dropping money at the dealership. This time they discovered their tester hose fitting was messed up and VOILA!! my car read normal... Point of this story is to talk to your dealer and see what they say. Never know unless you ask...
