Well not so much booom but a POP! The fucking thing is fried. Dont ask how I dont know. Everything was hooked up right and I double checked everything. The car wasn't starting at all. It was flooding the engine hella bad. I thought it might be because I had both fuel pumps on so I took the inline off and tried it again and then TOP from the dfi and smoke comes out from under my seat where the dfi was mounted. Sucks ass.

I think I might be done. I have one of my computer buddies coming over to see if he can fix it. But if he cant I will have a lot of stuff for sale. i.e.

Calmap - never used 130.00
625cc inj. " " 200.00
power controle mod. " " 140.00

and possible everything else on the car.

greddy fmic 275.00
hrc s16g w/ manifold and down pipe taped for water cool 1700.00
Greddy sp cat-back 200.00
crane fireball (red one) w/ boost retard control box 500.00 all
hrc inline 30.00
hrc fpr 30.00
bosch 1:1 fpr
autometer gauges : a/f 30.00 egt 80. boost 25.00, electric fp 150.00 they are all the cf ones

HKS tt type 1 w/ harness 75.00

turbo XS h-rfl bov 130.00
turbo Xs mbc 40.00
turbo xs High boost mbc 100.00

I dont know what I am going to do yet. I have to do alot of thinking!

Damm that sucks man, mine fucked up too and i just sent it bac to hrc and they got it fixed for free.
It was probably flooding it cause the fuel maps are so rich and the cranking fuel needed to be turned down on the dfi.
i hope it all works out for ya, how did you hook everyting up... i hade some problems at first, so i can maybe help..

but if you do decide to sell i have a friend who would gladly take the greddy sp off your hands. And i'd be intrested in the boost and fuel gauge...but i hope it dont come to that emoji

Sorry to hear that. Don't give up yet! Find out what can be done to fix that problem. I wanted to give up many times before, and I think it's really worth it, since I got my car running. Hang in there.

I don’t think HRC or Accel could or WOULD do anything for me. I think it was my fault. I had everything hooked up and I had no problems right off. (The box didn't blow) I would turn the ignition and the starter would just crank nothing else would happen. I stopped to double check everything and I couldn't see anything, but I did smell gas. I went to try again and the starter only turned about 4 cranks and then stopped, it kinda acted like it was dead. I went to check everything again and I see a tone of gas coming out of the exhaust manifold where the turbo bolts to it. Everything other than the gas was fine. All the connections where fine so I was thinking that the two high flow pumps on the car was causing it to flood it. I took the inline pump off and let it sit for a long time to let all the gas evaporate. I went to try and start it again and it turned about 6-7 times and then I hear a POP and I see a tone of smoke poor out from under my seat.

I took the top off the DFI and there are three different areas blown. A resistor was blown all over the inside and two smaller ones where also blown. I don’t know where I went wrong w/ the hook up but I must have done something.

I had the main power going to the batt. and the ground going to the neg. I had the 12v switched connected to the coil pack 12v wire. I had the tps connected and the tach all connected right. The injector harness was fine and i taped the engine coolant sen. wires w/ the two wires that are supposed to go to the new coolant temp sen. Everything was in its place as far as I could see. One thing I noticed was when I took the 1:1 fpr off there was no sign of gas in the return side. None come out of the fpr and there was none in the line. It didn't even smell like gas had touched it. I think this might be why it was flooding.

I don’t think I am going to try the dfi again. I think I will settle for 15psi daily w/ 440cc and a s-afc. I am just so discouraged at this point. I have been working on the cars engine, interior, and exterior sense Fed. and it is kinda getting old. The funny thing is I was running 15.3 on 5.5 lbs of boost on stock internals and I am running 16.00-15.50 on 8-9.5lbs of boost w/ built engine. The only thing I don’t have is a built head. So, after 4 long ass months of work and 7-8,000.00 I am running slower than before. FUCK THAT!

So if any of you guys need the calmap, power controle mod., or 625cc's make me an offer they are all good new.

It sucks to hear about the dfi fuckin exploding, but have you read into the 8 injector setup that corbin is using? If you don't already have an afc, it would be cheaper to buy the extra injector controller. I really like what i have read on corbin's page about this. It could be the answer to your problems man. I know that is the route I'll be taking when I get a chance to rebuild. later, justin

Nope there is no seal on it. Just 4 screws no seals or tape broken. Do you think I should talk to hrc or accel. I have a feeling they would tell me to call the other. I guess I will try and call hrc and see what they say. I dont think I will run the dfi if they can do something for me anyway. But I guess I could give it a try.

power control modual is still for sale.

fly1 the calmap is in the mail in the morning.

I have been trying to place you for so long, Greg... I know I would have heard about you since your real close to me... I was right I think, I talked to Eric Jones cause I saw you had a "Nocturnal Motorsports" FMIC, thats the one that Shannon cut the end tanks off the Apexi that was smashed and welded the Griffen core in? You bought the wrecked RS and transfered the parts over didnt you? Hella good deal emoji We need to hookup sometime. BTW, yeah, my tranny is fuct, I am pulling it right now and when I take the case apart and see the damage, I'll let you know. Armond has a good feeling that I put the output shaft bearing in backwards and it melted and broke apart and ground up.. so I dont know how bad the damage is till I get it out and apart emoji Thats about power for the course, I always seem to do something stupid like that.

btw Justone, I would definately try your hardest to talk to HRC and Accel, cause I am sure if they wont fix it for free, they will do it for a very good price...

Sorry to hear about that Brian,
Fuck my car got jacked up too. Get this i was racing an NSX i beat the crap out of him, i drove home, my idle was fucked, i checked compression 1 cylinder was low. i was like how the fuck i just rebuilt this shit so i took apart the engine...AGAIN!!!!....and i cracked 1 ring land and one ring. there goes the JE pistons. well i was like what the heck how could this happen! so i checked my boost gauge and it spiked to 18 psi. my boost controller was set at 12. this could have caused it. but after i tore that shit apart i found an interesting thing. The howell 10.5 compression pistons i have appeared to have hit the head, ther is an area where the piston hit that raised area between te 2 intake valves. i need to call them about this because it shouldn't be doing that shit. so i ordered new pistons from HRC cause they were on sale. and i gotta rebuild again this weekend JACKED I SAY!!!!!I hate that feeling when you realize you put in all this work and now it's just fucked!

Tell me about it. It has gotten me so discouraged, but I will pick my self up again and start over.

Man 18psi on 10.5:1 pistons, you had to be flying. I kinda want to put in some 9.5:1 .020 over rather than these 8.6:1 pistons I have now. If I can find some I might do it when I put my new head on.

How do you do a rebuild in one weekend? Do you have access to a hone tool and a balancer? The cylinder walls couldn't be that bad because you just rebuilt it. But dont you have to re-hone it before you put in new pistons? If you do it yourself what would I need to get to hone my cylinder walls?

the cylinders were not damaged, and i only had 2000 miles on it, i have a 3.5" flex hone that i used for the crosshatching and honing. it works pretty good. I've even heard of some people using them to overbore their cylinders. i wouldn't recommend it, but i have heard of people doing it and having rather good luck. i was pissed! i also noticed that the Howell pistons hit my head! i was like what the fuck i thought these were supposed to fit in my engine. needless to say i was very pissed. now i have cooled down a bit and will rebuild it slowly, i got all the new parts today and i will start putting everything back together this weekend. i think it will take me 3-5 days. we'll see.
Good luck Homie!

It was the ringland that broke? did you try to call howell and tell them wtf... Let me know, cause i'm shooting for around 18psi and i'd hate to break the engine...

2 cylinders had low compression one had 150 and the other had 190, the rest were 215. the 190 cylinder had a broken ring, cracked. The 150 cylinder had a cracked ring land. only one crack, in the same place as the crack in the stock pistons. i think i was probably putting like almost or more than 400 horsepower out with 18 psi and 10.5 compression. I am really upset with howell's pistons that come with their kit because i installed their whole kit;rods pistons rings bearings etc etc and the freaking pistons hit the roof of the cylinder. i'll take some pictures and post them.

Was the head milled at a machine shop? If so, how much did they have to take off. We had a similar problem with a customers car(piston hitting valves)because the head was milled from Gude and the bottom end was also milled. Nobody knows how much and that was his problem.

It may or may not be a piston problem. The problem might be with the machine shop. Just some ideas.

I am also sure you detonated the shit out of your pistons. This is probably what cracked/broke the ring land. If any pieces were flying around, they caused damage to the valves.

Good luck and call Gary Howell before pointing fingers. He might have some insight for ya.

DFI is on its way to hrc. The tech guy told my that there wasn't too much he or they (hrc) could do. So they are going to talk to accel and send it their way when they get it. If it was the dfi and not me they should send me a new one and the stage 4 will begin again.

One thing I was thinking about is the tape or seal on the dfi. I don't have anything like that on mine. So it is a possible that they sold me a bad on that had been broken before. Does everyone have a seal or sticker on theirs??? If everyone else has one on theirs I am screwed. They will say I broke the seal or took it off even though I didn't have any type of tamper seal

I guess we will see in a few weeks or so. You think they would try and go out of their way to help you seeing how much money I give them
