#21890, "Finally the dfi is back in and working...sort of."

Well as some of you know i've been having trouble with my dfi. It was a bad unit, so i just got it back the other day and i got time today to put it back in. And then the fun began..

i flooded the car like 3 times
found out the rpm signisal wire wasnt getting good contact, and that i needed to move my 12v cranking wire to the ignition wire. Thanks to armond (i bugged the hell out of him emoji)
But after a few hours of tinkering i've gotten it to idle. Not really well, but so so.
tomarrow i get to spend all day tring to get it to run better. its a pain... but at least its working

And if anyone has a base fuel map that idles good and can save me some time let me know what the #'s are or email it to me.

Well i got it running but my a/f gauge stays in the green durring idle. So i know its rich, plus i can smell it. But as i lean it out at idle it wants to die.
To ppl with a dfi,
what are the numbers in the first 4 rows and 4 columns??
mine are
10 11 11 12
16 17 18 19
20 18 20 22
30 32 33 36

at idle it goes from row 2-3 #'s 18 and 18

OMG those are some high numbers. No wonder my car runs like shit. Can you e-mail me a copy of your base file Brad? I want to do some comparisons. 992gnt@prodigy.net

there are mine as of this morrning.
with those settings i have to warm up the car for about 5min or so then it will old at about 8-900 rpms pretty smoothly.

Any suggestions?? I'm also going to see if i can tap the dfi into my stock o2 and use it to help out.

Your numbers are for a stage 4, right? My numbers are close (but lean) from idle to about halfway up, but I think my highest WOT cell is like 118 or something. I'm gonna work on the thing tonight and see if this has been my stumbling block. Looks like I'm rich down low and lean up top.

Unfortunately, I really can't help you. My car is running like dog shit too, and I haven't spent enough time tuning. I will say that the Power Tuner module was a big help for the idle mixture. Hahn sells it, but Summit is a little cheaper and has free shipping.

Someone needs to dyno with those values and scan us a copy of the A/F readings, i think i have another job lined up, if i take it, i'll be able to do it... I think Hahn programs their DFI files really rich cause they dont want someone throwing on a 6000 dollar kit and blowing their engine running lean... but its way overkill.. my car loads up on fuel... WOT is fine, just get afterburn in the manifold and it heats the EGT's up too high, but its do-able, idle is the prob though cause taking off from a stop i bog down and stall, then a second later boom, wheels spinning... 1400 dollar DFI and the mug offers all kinds of great features, just harder than a mug to tune safely...

Do you have the Power Tuner module? I'm thinking about getting a wide-band o2, since there's no Dyno's nearby.

Well crap! This isn't making me feel to good about my DFI. I have my crane on and running and about 1/2 of the DFI stuff on. I still have to put the injectors and the fpr on. I have the power control mod. But it only leans or richens 10% right?

Who of you has the power control tuner? And what numbers do you have it set on at idle and WOT? My guess is the idle is on 10.

So, from all this I am reading I can expect my car to run hella rich and possibly not idle. GREAT I can't wait.

Oh ya before I forget. Does anyone know if the new Calmap software will work on the gen. 6 box? or is it only going to work on the gen 7?

well i'll be dyno'n mine on the 25th, probably with the base maps how they are now. i'll make sure to get all the o2 data i can. i need to do some more reading and see how to tune the map and tps settings, i think those are also playing a role in the super rich idel. Dose everyone have a 3bar map? i wonder if a 2bar would give a better idle since there is more vacuume settings available

The fuel maps i have are for the stage 5, just like brads.

the calmap works on the 6, there jsut coming out with a new easer to use version for the gen 7.

yea i have to keep mine running (or i cant goto work) lol yea i know i need a beater...

My power tuner module is set to 6 at idle. 5 is 0% change, 1 is 10% rich and 10 is 10% lean (may have that backwards) The WOT is set at 5 and has a 25% swing either way, but only comes into play above 75% throttle. My car idles fine, most of the time. It's during acceleration that I have problems.

I have my Power Tuner set at: idle 5%, wot 2%. If I set the idle at 5 1/2% it idles real rough; at 6% and the engine cuts off. The Power Tuner helped out A LOT. Now, my car idles good, but I still experience initial acceleration problems. The car runs great at WOT.

today was the first day of perfect idle..... thanks to armond helping me out with a few things.
i ended with a whole new set of bfm, bascially. its weird cauase the numbers are higher, but it runs better, and no black smoke emoji

i think we should have a weekly discussion about different areas of the dfi and how to adjust/ tune them. this was everyone with one and share ideas and insite on what to do. so we all can become better at this, and so our car run like they should.

what do you all think???

definately a good idea. What I need is mid-throttle help. Cruising at 65 mph in 5th (or 4th for that matter) at around 3500 rpms, I give it just a little throttle (like to pass) and it bucks and jerks and just doesn't go. I think it's rich, cause eventually it clears out and pulls like mad. Not much fun when a Honduh rollin' up on ya. I'm idling fine, top end is lean, middle seems rich. I have a hunch it may be one of the other maps giving me grief.

Greg, the problem you just described is exactly what I'm experiencing! That jerking/hesitation also occurs at low throttle acceleration at low speeds too. If we can figure out what the best values are for the fuel map, in relation to the throttle position, I believe this will smooth out low throttle accelerations some. Since I don't have a Calmap, I really can't experiment yet. I'm guessing the Accel DFI uses the MAP sensor values to control fuel, and I wonder if it uses the throttle position sensor values as well. Have you guys noticed any relationship between MAP and throttle position sensor values?

yea the dfi used changes in the map and in the tps to add a % of enrichment to the b.f.m. I had a problem with the car bucking cause one of the b.f.m. cells was way off and super rich. kon, your gonna need to find someone with a calmap or pick up one to be able to adjust the middle area or to load a different map.

do you notice a big difference in the # in the cell when ity starts to buck greg? i also noticed mine now seams like i hit a wall right in 2nd before 3rd, but thats cause its lean (according to my a/f) might be easer if you have someone in the car with you so they can see what cell its on when you start to bog, then you can try leaning it out a little and see if it helps

That's part of my problem, I need someone to tune with. I can't watch it and drive at the same time. I know, Kon you can roll down here and help me tune, then we'll throw the laptop on yours and tune it. Saves you some money and me from losing any more hair. emoji
