Is it better to go custom or just get a kit?

Definately a kit. By buying a kit from Hahn you have technical support if you have problems w/ your kit.. but w/ a custom kit you have nada.

Get a kit... RxR_Eclipse and myself are doing custom setups, and I'm sure he'll also tell you to get a kit if you can by all means.

Yea if you can afford to do a kit right off hand do it. I'm in the middle (more like last quarter) of a custom kit. that is just cause I'm PWT, and can't affor to spend like 2000$ in one shot. (not to mention I just got into a new rental, $1000, and bought new furniture, $818, or my turbo would be running now) O yea I had to get new rubber too....$478 All this within the last 3 weeks. Hey D did you get a FMIC yet?

naw, not yet... but I talked to a guy at a local yard and he's got a starion in good shape for cheap. I just switched jobs so I've been a little broke lately... it'll still be a couple months for me. Be sure to take lots of documentation and pics for the rest of us! Good luck too!

I am doing a custom kit at well. It is one year in the making and still not done. Still have to get my front mount IC and pipes. It is fun and you will learn alot. But if you want boost now, and can aford it, get a kit.

By the time u'r done figuring out what u need for a custom kit equal to a HRC kit, u'll have spent more than just getting the kit.

97' Eclipse RS (kinda)

Present mods:
HRC stage III turbo kit (12 psi street, 25 psi track) / HKS 2 1/2" cat back exhaust w/burnt cat / 16" wheels w/Yokohomo tires (215/40) / 420A engine w/ tooled crank, billet crower rods, and 8.5:1 JE pistons / Head ported and polished, 3 angled valve job
Power-stop brakes w/axis pads / Ebachi Pro lowering kit (1.8") / MSD DIS-2 ignition system w/turbo retard

Near Future:
Stand-alone fuel system / 550cc injectors, and fuel rail / TEC III fuel/ecu system / 17” Hart racing wheels / KYB AGX struts, w/ upgraded anti sway bars / Rear brake conversion (front to rear, Brembo in front)

this has been a topic discussed over and over and over. Basically it all boils down to hookups and down time. If you have all the right facilities and hook ups to make your set up and you can stand the down time go custom. But if you want turbo and you want it now and want to taste the boost up to about 7-9 psi get the kit. The reason why everyone does the guts upgrade is because the first taste of boost you get is like crack straight to the heart. All you want is lighter, faster, harder, and of course much much more boost. This is where the kits run into problems. yes there are stages 1-20 but they already have you by the balls as soon as you send them the money. Yes they do have a tech support and all that but thats why this board is here. I called hahn once to ask for help, yes they are nice people and i talked to bill. He helped me with what i needed and told me if i ran into problems to call back and get a hahn kit. I did however order my crower rods from them. late mike

stage BIG custom mj racing turbo set up, built block.worked head, all tial components, hks evcez, spearco 992,oh yeah and a huge bottle in the trunk last run all turbo 13.8@108 no nos dyno'd at AEBS in Cali with 300+ hp to the wheels
