#21603, "weird hesitation in third and fourth. Help!"

I have a weird problem. I get a kinda hesitation in third and fourth gear at max boost. I am only boosting 10psi at the moment. It idles fine and runs through first and second fine. I will get to about the end of third and I am at max boost and it gets kinda choppy. My a/g gauge also jumps from being fine to three-four bars leaner. (autometer a/f gauge) This is all during WOT. It will do the same thing in fourth. My fuel set up is still the stage two and my injectors are still stock.

I replaced the spark wires and put in new spark plugs and I still have the same problem.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Is the DFI in? What are you using for an FPR? Sounds like it's running out of fuel.

>What are you using for an FPR?

The one that come w/ the stage one and two kits

>Sounds like it's running out of fuel.

I dont know what is going on. I want to try and pinpoint it before I put the dfi and crane on. (going on this weekend)

What were your egt readings? I bet you were knocking.....if I had to guess. Maybe bad gas. How many miles are on our fuel filter?

EGT's - 1400. Normal.

Ya it made me think about the filter, I need to change the filter. But if that was causing it i think it would do it in all gears, not just the top ends of third and fourth at high rpms. The gas is ok Because it was doing it on E and is still doing it w/ a new tank of gas.

I called the HRC tech line and they had no clue. He said he thought it was electrical. But I replaced my plugs and wires today and i still have the same problem. Nothing that I can see is grounded or anything.

I have no clue. Man this is the first time I cant figure it out. I knew it was bound to happen. I hope I can figure it out soon.

Check your MAP sensor. If it's good you may want to upgrade to the VC-2 FCD. Hahns may be letting the voltage creep up above 4.9V. From what I understand, it has a rep. of this. You're getting fuel cut, so the MAP sensor is the key here.

I had a feeling it might be the FCD.

I agree it's probably the FCD. Lots of us with HRC FCDs have this problem, bust out a digital multimeter and monitor the FCD voltage.

Well, if everyone is thinking its the fcd, then I would wait until after you install the dfi and crane, cause you wont need the fcd anymore with the stage iv fuel upgrade.

FCD keeps the ECU from seeing boost on the MAP sensor. The MAP sensor is only supposed to see -25 to 0 on the "boost gauge" of a N/A car. As soon as our MAP sees more than 0 psi of boost it tends to freak out.

The HRC FCD is supposed to sit between the ECU and MAP and block the signal... but it often fails to do this. (HRC *will* send you replacements if you verify the voltage isn't clamped right, but the new one often "works" the same as the old one.) emoji

Well I checked the FCD and it is good. It never goes above 4.3v. I changed the spark wires and plugs. I changed the fuel filter and ran the gas tank empty. I put new gas in and I still get the hesitation. I have no clue what the fuck it going on. The only thing I can think off is the holly intank pump. But I dont know why that would cause a hesitation. I still have the hrc inline and now I also have the holly in-tank.

What else could be going on.

It is a hesitation at WOT only and at max boost only. It wont do it at WOT while climbing to max boost But as soon as I get near it it will do it.

Could it be the mbc?
The holly high flow I added?
inj.?

Thats all I can think off. Anyone else have any ideas?
