I have heard many different views on breaking in an engine after rebuilding it. I want facts on the milage I need to go before I start adding boost. I would like to hear this from people that have had experience with breaking in our engines before. So Dino, Greg, and who ever else has broken in a 420a let me know the facts.

Sorry I cant help but Id like to add something. After driivng first 1000 miles, which I heard is all u need to do, would it be a bad idea to drive to the shootout which for me is about 700 highway miles roundtrip and run my car a couple times while Im there? I got friends saying I shouldn't put all those highway miles on car so soon even if Im broken in. If its kool I hope I can get some help tuning the car when I get to shootout. -Dave

I've actually heard from several engine rebuilders/machine shops that you only need to take it easy until the rings seat. Then you can let it rip. Rings typically seat in the first 30 miles of driving.

600 miles. that is how long I waited on my engine, and it held up well. I have seen people try to get away with the 30 miles deal on turbo 420A's..........that doesn't work.

i went 1000 miles befor any boost, at about 6-700 i noticed a difference in the engine, seamed to idel smoother. and thats when the rings seated i beleve. Better to be safe than have to do it all over again. I have about 1300 miles now and i've boosted since 1000 (only 4psi tho) and its running stronger than ever

Shit.. u don't wanna hear from me..
I took it easy for almost 2500 miles. I went less than 3500 rpm up to 1000, less than 5500 w/out boost till 2000, then finally low boost till 2500. I just felt it was safer that way, a big investment for me to loose.
