#21255, "here's my new toys i ordered"

i ordered all these in the last couple days (injectors will be ordered monday)

apexi S-AFC
HRC injectors 500cc
testpipe for my cat (from testpipe.com)
TurboXS Dual stage MBC (should help with traction, read some good reviews)
vortech recalibration kit
the best one of all....reverse indiglo guages (like 20+hp!)

need to get a triple guage pod so i can add a fuel pressure guage
thinking about getting that guage cluster pod thingy from autometer for A/f and oil pressure.

thought i've seen alot of guys running 15psi boost without ignition timing retard...?

also do you think i could go with 550cc with just AFC and no aftermarket ignition system???

well yah you could with 500cc+ u will run rich with a afc... but the ignition is more for retarding to prevent where detox ping the HAMMER can hit... then say good buy to ur nice internals AGAIN! i would rather be safe then sorry...

It would be wise to get an ignition for anything above 15psi, something that will let you retard the timing, like Crane or MSD.

k, so at 15psi i wouldn't need the ignition retard? more than 15psi i should get it?......would 550cc make me run too rich at 15psi? if not i'll go ahead and get the 550cc and get the ignition later. i'm getting RC 550cc actually for about $70 bucks a piece.

Where did you order your S-AFC from and how much was it?

And 15psi is the limit with out retarding the ignition unless your using race gas.

550cc injectors will be fine under boost with an S-AFC, but you will be super rich at idle (and vacum) even with an S-AFC.

Can it be done? Will the car idle or drive fairly decent using larger than 440cc injectors?

I know if you lower the idle pressure with a S-FMU, it can be done. That is not what I want to know.

I would like to just use a S-AFC, HRC/Accel 500cc injector with a 3:1 fmu disc/ring in my standard vortech fmu. This would give me safe fuel pressures and take me to the 18 psi that we all crave.

Who has done this themselves or even tried 550cc with this setup.

Whatcha think Dino?

500cc / afc may be doable. If you can lower the base fuel pressures, easily doable.

Consider this: i am at -50% on my AFC with 440's and STOCK idle pressures. The datalogger tells me my short term fuel trim is 0 +/-2, and my long term is at 0 at idle. What does that mean? My ECU isn't doing any compensation for my injectors. Think about it.

I got a stage III too.I used to run 18 PSI w/ out any retard but I turned it down cause of a new head gasket(overheated).I running 440's on a 4:1 disk and I only have the afc leaned -36%.My idle and low rpm driving is near stock.I just rich out my high end for safety's sake(0%hi/2%lo @ 6000) till I get dyno tuned.

Thanks for the post. I am going this route when I build my spare motor this fall. 500cc/3:1/S-AFC

BTW: I am at work now and having no problems posting etc. My computer at home cannot even login. It just keeps refreshing the main discussion board page everytime I click the link.

I sent you an e-mail at dino@2gnt.com, juan@2gnt.com and admin@2gnt.com I could not actually look up e-mail addresses because all it did was refresh the page when I clicked on user info etc.

Any ideas on what is the problem?

how much boost do you plan on running? 3:1 seems a little low....but i've been out of the loop lately so i could be off on that comment....i plan on running 18psi max......

Check this out.

I did some conversions from corbins page and could not find exactly the setup to use for the star kit. The fuel pressures had me running too lean. I did my own trial and error. Long story short-here is what I found to keep egt safe.

The rest of the info is from previous posts that someone has made on what works for them. If someone disputes these numbers, please post yours to compare. I do believe you can keep below 1600 degrees with this setup. Front mount intercooler and free flowing exhaust is required.

Injectors FMU disc/ring (S-AFC required) Y or N Max PSI

stock 235 12:1 N 6

315cc 8:1 N 10

370cc 6:1 Y 12

440cc 4:1 Y 15

500cc 3:1 Y 18

This is my best guess for a safe fuel system. As time goes on I am sure all of these setups will be tested thoroughly.

This is all using the standard vortech fmu. This is also on 93 pump gas. Ignition timing required above 15psi(depends on compression). Race gas is good for a couple extra psi if your bottom end is built for it. Keep an eye on knock(datalog) and egt.

any other thoughts out there? star kit only

Then only go to 15 psi, datalog and track knock. Increase in 1 psi increments to examine knock, egt and A/F. This would also be best done on a dyno. You could check your hp/torque and if it starts dropping, you are starting to knock and the ecu is pulling timing.
We know that our turbo is still fairly efficient at 25psi. This is if you have a .63 AR housing on the T3 exhaust side.

I personally will not go over 15 psi without either a mix of C16 race gas or timing retard on the ignition.

Dyno/dyno/dyno/dyno.......need I say more. Get it running, keep boost low and then tune it or have someone who knows the S-AFC very well tune it on the dyno. We have a mustang dyno locally and I will just drop the $150 or so for a few hours dyno time. A buddy of mine is a wizard with the S-AFC. I do not know many local 4g63 guys without one.

BTW: the smallest disc/ring in the recal kit is 4:1. They make you buy the 3:1 and 1:1 separately. This might not be a big deal below 15 psi boost settings, but when reaching 18 psi, your fuel pump will give up. Might want to call vortech and have them ship you a 3:1 also.

let us know how it works for ya......it is great we learn from each other

damn! 3:1 is like $30! the whole kit was only like $45!........so the consensus is 3:1 for 18psi? maybe i'll just tune for 15psi and maybe that'll be fast enough for me for now......but 18psi just sounds so good........
