anyone with a 97+ move their FMU from the back to up in the engine bay? does it/will it effect anything by running the vaccum line so far to the back? i'll be replacing my claibration disks soon so i thought it would be easier to swap those out if i had it in my engine bay.......plus mine hangs down a little and i'm afraid i'm going to rip it off if i run over a small animal.....

inlet is the side port this is from the rail and fuel pressure gauge if so... and the bottom is for the return line back to the tank.

I just put mine in yesterday. The FMU will set your idle fuel pressure. There for you don't need the stock fuel pressure regulator anymore. Just take the stock fpr off of the filter housing and cap the outlet with somthing. Make sure it seals up good. Then mount your FMU under your hood. Run a line from the fuel rail to the FMU, then a line from the FMU back to the return inlet on your fuel pump housing.
But I have a Vortech Super FMU. It alows me to set static fuel presure. Not sure what kind of setup you have.

well if he has a s-fmu like you, then ya, you could do what you are suggesting. in his case however he only has the fmu, which you cannot set the idle fuel pressure. you'll have to leave your fmu near your tank beccause you cannot just take out the stock fpr.
the idea with the fmu is to have the fuel system run 50 psi which is regulated by the stock fpr...anything over 50 psi is shot back to the fuel tank. somewhere in the return line you mount the new fmu, which does nothing for fuel pressure..yet. when you hit boost, the fmu clamps down the return line, forcing higher fuel pressure levels according to the boost of your turbo(the boost line run to the top of the fmu).
in the case that your stock fpr is in the engine bay, already attached to the end of your fuel rail, you could mount the fmu in the engine bay. alternativly, the s-fmu could be mounted in the engine bay which will take care of the idle fuel pressure and fuel pressure under boost.

What would happen if you had the inlet and outlet lines on the fmu switched? I am wondering because I am running REALLY lean at full boost. Like DANGEROUSLY lean. I can't even run it to red line because my EGT hits over 1600, so I let off. I am thinking it is fuel related. I still have the stock injectors, but I am only boosting at 7 to 8 psi. I have hose clamped all the connections around the fuel pump and the vacuum line to the TB. I have some new injectors, HRC 415's, but I do not think I should be running this lean even with the stockers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what FMU you have, but the return line is usualy on the bottom. Don't you have fuel presure guage? They don't cost that much to put one on your fuel line. If you want one in the car they are much more expensive, but I recomend it. You can monitor you fuel system while you drive. See exactlly what it is doing under boost.
