#21091, "running VERY rich with 30lb Accel injectors.(ATTN: DeanoD)"

We have the car up and running, only problem is that with the 30lb Accel injectors in, with no SAFC, the car runs very rich when out of boost, and fouled the plugs once already. will it take a while for the ECU to learn how to control the bigger injectors or am i just SAFC bound? anyone else had this problem? thanks for any help.

You need an S-AFC to trick the ECU.

a afc is not needed the ecu can work with it... i have some 30 laying around just waitting for james plus right now i got other crap to worry about... a afc would help to lean it down and stop foulin the plugs and get some more power hehe =)

I know DeanoD is running these injectors with the stock ECU...and i think he is doing fine. i have the 8:1 disk in also, just like him. but the back bumper has black junk all over it. im just running 5psi right now, the car is in the shop getting fitted with the custom FMIC and i will run 7psi. it just seems overly rich out of boost. i dont want to ruin the cat or suffer from detonation caused by being too rich.

so is denod running rich at idle? or did his ecu learn it eventually? or does he have the sfmu to adjust the fuel at different points?

Don't you HAVE to lower the idle fuel pressure with a FMU or FPR for 30lb injectors to work?

yah dan, if u use the s-fmu and have a hrc stage 2 etc 3.62 disk would work with fuel pressure a bit lower static around 37-40... this is just one way if u are going to boost 9psi etc ...

I do not have any problems running the injectors. I have the standard Vortech FMU with the 8:1 disc/ring in it.

After your ecu learns to use them (short/long term fuel trim), you should be fine.

I also do not have a CAT!!!!!! This is probably your problem. I have the standard Star downpipe with a 2.5 inch test pipe with a 2.5 inch exhaust. I do get carbon build up on the tip and around the edges, but that is it.

My plugs look like the car runs stoich or maybe slightly rich. Slight amounts of black carbon on the inside of the plug. The electrode(whatever) looks like she is getting a good burn. I do have to change my plugs every 3000 miles with the oil change. I can tell when that happens, because it starts like crap.

When I first start my car, if you looked at the exhaust, it would show a rich running car. After she warms up, she runs fine.

You might also want to check your O2 sensors. Make sure the holes are not plugged etc.

http://www.testpipe.com someone a while back mentioned them and I have sent numerous locals and other 2gnters to them. $40 shipped.
I had them make a resonator/testpipe for me and it costs a bit more. It is 2.5 internal and the outside is 3 inch. My exhaust does not have one, besides the muffler.

Worth the 40 bucks to find out if this is the problem. Dump the cat unless you need to install it once a year for emissions.

if you have further questions, e-mail me directly

Did you rebuild? If you did and you are running lower compression pistons, you might want to install the 6:1 disc/ring instead.

What is your egt reading at 5 psi? When it is broke in, go up in 2 psi increments and watch your egt at 7000 rpm in 3rd gear and then again in 4th gear. If you get to 1550, it is perfect.

You also need to use NGK BKR7E11 plugs gapped to .035 Screw what everyone else says to use. This is what I am doing at it works.

I just followed Stan and Dino and all works well.

I havent rebuilt yet...the block is in the machine shop right now, but im just running stock internals until they go. i do have those sparkplugs, and we just replaced the O2 sensor during the install with one from Nopi. i havent run it real hard, but EGT's and 5psi non-intercooled were around 1400. and when we checked the plugs... totally black. they actually fouled on the way to the shop to get my FMIC installed. would running with no Cat cause a CEL? or make the car horendously loud? my friend has a JRSC Si with a test pipe and that thing is horribly loud. thanks for the help. im most likely just gonna get a SAFC and lean it out for idle.

My wastegate makes much more noise than the exhaust. I do have a CEL and it was on because of the evap stuff anyway. Long before the turbo.

1400 is really rich. When you get the front mount on, turn up the boost to 8 psi and then your egt will be 1550. It will work.

That O2 sensor might be the cause also. If I replaced one O2, then I would do both. This might be causing your overly rich problem.

I have a friend who just put a drag turbo kit on a LS Integra. He is having severe rich problems. He has the stock cat in place and this is the cause.

buy a test pipe!!!!!! It will allow you to flow more air, which will help you to lean out. Trust me.

Being too rich is just as bad as being too lean. You will screw up your o2, plugs and lose MASSIVE amounts of power. Too lean will cause detonation which is bad but try replacing your o2 and plugs every 2-3 weeks from running rich. .93v is what to aim for at 6krpm's in 3rd-5th gear. 1st and 2nd gears go by so fast it doesnt really even matter unless you have an all out drag car and NEED it to be a 10th of a point faster.

Will there be a CEL with a testpipe? i didnt replace the downstream O2 sensor, i was told its only purpose was to tell the ECU if the cat was working or not...wouldnt this be unimportant is the cat is GONE?
