#21084, "Change out Disks for more power?"

Is it advisable to change out my Vortech FPR disk from a 12:1 to say a 10:1 or 8:1 boosting only 7 lbs?? I ask this cuz i'm always wayy too rich running at WOT boost and like posted before I feel more power at 3/4 throttle than at full so I'm thinking that runinng too rich at WOT is hurting my performance. i know you can run 10lbs with the 12:1 disk but i BARELY run 5-7 lbs. has anyne done this before?.. thanks

EGT before you start playing. I guarantee if you are running the stock injectors and 12:1 fmu, you are not running too rich on the Star kit.

You might actually be running too hot(high egt)and your knock sensor is retarding timing. This will make the car have less power at the higher rpm range.

Did I mention you need an EGT. LOL 1550F is the magic number to shoot for. 1500-1600 is just fine at redline in 3rd and 4th gear.

Now you know what to look for besides seat of the pants feel. You could spend days researching the past turbo posts and learning from that. I do suggest it, that is how I learned in the beginning.

You are also misinformed about boosting 10psi on a star kit. This is not recommended by anyone on this board. We have found out 7 psi is max with stock injectors. 7 psi x 12 (fmu) = 84 + 47 psi(stock pressure)= 131 psi fuel pressure total This cannot be done on the walbro or Airtex pump. Fuel pressure will drop off at higher rpm and that is when you will start to run lean.

Good luck and hope this helps.

erm will your AF ratio gauge say your running lean? I got an airtex and the stock pump and it's always been running rich. Hehe I'm gonna change my fuel filter soon so it'll probably start running even richer.

egt primary.....A/F secondary.....plugs thirdly This is the order I would use to tell if you are running rich or lean. I think if you are using the stock ecu to pull timing when reaching knock, you need to run rich to run good. If you have an igition boost timing retard, then you can run a bit leaner(make more power)and be safe that you are not detonating.

Leaner is better if you can retard timing before your knock sensor senses it.

Richer is better if you rely on your stock ecu to pull timing when it senses knock. If you run too lean, the knock will not be fast enough to pull timing and you will crack a piston etc.

IMHO

I didn't get an EGT cuz my turbo was already bolted on and I don't wanna take the whole thing off to put a probe in place. If I am running too hot what is the solution??..I really thinnk that my ecu is pulling my timming and making my car not as responsive. thanks

well you wont know how hot your running unless you got the egt in... if you dont push your car hard then your not running hot hot hot i hope... for any tuning a egt is needed and a/f to back you up...

Just drill the manifold with it on the car. Vacume the shavings up and all is good. The probe screws in anyway.
