how do i know when i cracked my piston, or piston rings? besides doin a compression test...is there anything i can see when im driving, or feel? any smoke? vibrations?

car will idle like its a v8 with racing cams. you will get massive blow-by and smoking like shit.

well when i cracked a piston i knew because yo could hear in the exhaust tone that there was a cylinder that was missing and idle was inconsistent. also i knew for sure when i pulled out my dipstick while the car was running and little puffs of smoke came out of the dipstick hole.

If you have any of these, DO A compression test!

1) Puffs of smoke out of dipstick / dipstick pops up
2) Puffs / stream of smoke out crankcase vents (esp. the one that goes back into your intake)
3) Rough idle, feels like a sparkplug died.
4) Increased blowby (oil in catchcan, or dripping out intake)
5) Pools of oil under your car
6) Kablooooowie:

Yeah we got that bitch out. After unbolting all four motor mounts and jacking/lowering the tranny, getting violent with the engine, and calling you a few times...it turned out that the flywheel had 4 stupid bolts that was holding the engine to the tranny.

After unbolting those bolts, it was a snap putting everything back (ie: tranny, center cross member, motor mounts...etc)

I just hope we didn't damage the CV joints in the process of being violent on the motor.

Looks to me that i'll be leaving my block intact when doing my rebuild. Less hassle.
