on hahn's racecraft website they said that i need 93 octane gas. well unfortunately for me i live in southern california, and we only have 91 octane gas (with few exceptions). i was wondering if i could use 91 octane gas, i emailed the hahn dude, but he doesn't seem to be responding. someone help me please =) TIA for ur help

It should be okay to run 7-8 psi of boost with 91 octane; although it's better to get at least a 92-93 octane (this will help minimize detonation). Maybe you could add a bottle of octane booster at every fill up. I know it sucks to have to do that.

Octane booster is worthless. When it says it raises 8 points, it means .8 so 91 octne would become 91.8 if it even works properly at all. You can use the 91 octane gas as long as you are aware of the higher possibility of knock and pre-ignition.

I was talking to a friend over the weekend and he told me that 20/20 did a report on gas and said that with all the modern technology that all the gas at gas stations is the same, but they continue to sale it regular and premium just to make more money. Im not sure if this is true but it is something interesting to look into.

hey toykilla, i htink when they did that test(on t he skyline), they were turnin up the boost while adding mods.. hence the noticeably large increases.

uhh...lol? you cant be serious. It was tests done to see how much horsepower each aftermarket part gives that car.
Here's "The Conclusion" of the article...

wow, according to that paragrapgh they just starting modding the car and dont even have a boost controller on it yet.

thanx for the input about the gas... i read that skyline article. those gains are just from the addons.
my friend told me it's b/c that the skyline they tested was modified to meet the pollution regulations, so pretty much they restricted the power of the engine by restricting airflow. and the reason the car had such big gains of hp with just simple bolt-ons is because it was just releasing the restrictions made on it, and adding a lil more on top.

Restrictions?? I read the article also and from what im understanding. They said the car had 7more hp than they rate that engine at. Their calculations are 287.xx and they are rated at 280hp. the reason it got such big gains is because its a damn TT engine. any high output engine is going to get a hell of a lot more hp out of a simple mod than a 4cylinder. ive seen a corvette z06 get damn near 80hp to the wheels just from exhaust system. they also pay for it too, instead of $500 for exhaust its around $2500.

280 hp? the baseline test showed 244.1hp.. i told you.. i'm pretty sure the skyline's power was restricted when it came to america. the boost i'm pretty sure wasn't increased since it is a test to see what the typical power gains are... i know for a fact that veilside's performance products are top of the line too..
so from the japanese hp 280 to 309 doesn't seem that bad with 2 mods and octance booster
but a 244 to 309 seems impossible unless they restricted the engine when it first came here

uhh..244.1 hp was at the wheels. 280 is what nissan was claiming at the crank. with 244.1hp at the rear wheels, they calculated it to have 287hp at the crank.
