#20088, "Who all has done a custom turbo kit?"

Just wondering what all you guys came across during the process. Pro? Cons?
We have a spare 14B laying around just begging to be used along with a brand new inline fuel pump and a friend can make a custom header. We have a Hotshot header (worthless, imo) on the car now, so we can send him the stock manifold to use as a guide for the custom setup and not have any downtime. That leaves getting a downpipe custom made, getting a fmic along with custom piping, fpr and getting a new oil sending unit. I'm assuming that we can get just the sending unit from Hahn? We have friends here in Denver that have had i/c piping custom done, so that shouldn't be a problem. Also, there's an exhaust shop here that gives a discount to the local DSM club and have done numerous 3" DSM exhaust, so that shouldn't be a problem either. It's a 95 ESi so the fuel return line is already there, too. We'll probably take the 14B to TEC here in town to get freshened up and also change it to a 16G. We also have a MLS headgasket on the car already, so that's a huge bonus. emoji Anything else to look out for?

Thanks,
Cody

<~~~ custom, but by a shop, not a piece together deal. my fuel pump died thou w/in a month so i'd say watch out for that. that and my turbo is mounted totally different, the piping for the intercooler is a little less kaiotic this way, instead of having all the pipes go in on the driver's side, the compressor pipe comes out of the bottom and goes to the passenger side into the ic, then out the driverside of the ic and up to the tb. and i'd recommend getting it tuned after the install.

There aint much too it and I still plan on doing a custom kit when I get around to fooling with the Talon again. I still have the walbro in so all I need is a $150 FMU and 5 minutes to complete the fuel system. I'm going to bring a oil feed line and my stock oil sender with me to Lowe's (or whatever huge hardware store chain you have). From what I understand the oil sending T is nothing more than a common pipe fitting found in the plumbing section. Just find one that both your stock oil sender and feed line thread into. I'm sure Howell or someone can easily point me in the right direction even if they wont sell one to me.
The only reason I'm not turbo already is because I have too much regular sh*t to replace. Starter sticks, one bad front brake caliper, one bad rear wheel bearing, one PCM that likes to cut itself off for no reason from time to time. On the other hand I have a headstart: not even broken in yet 6 puck sprung ceramic clutch, pistons ect and if it blows up I dont even give a sh*t. It will be sitting again just like it is now. I'm still plan on having it done by sept so i can have a friend drive it to NOPI (then they can hop in the VW if it cuts off and I wont be stuck inside the show all day)
