#19496, "Wastegate question"

I ordered the Star Stage 2 kit from a local reseller, and after finding out about the delta problem, the reseller decided to give me a Tial Wastegate instead (the flanges mount the same on the manifold).
Now the spring is a 6.5lbs spring, and in the directions for the wastegate it says it is adjustable with that same 6.5 spring up to 20 pounds of pressure.
Now I am unclear on how that works (my other 2 turbo'd cars i just installed and let em run like the wind)....
I would like to run around what the delta that came with the kit ran (7.5, or 8), so would a MBC work, or do i get a new spring for inside the Wastegate?

I'm rather unclear on how that works as well. I'd like to see a diagram before i'd trust that interpretation..

Buy a boost controller, or try to adjust it.

Well lets take a Delta Mark II wastegate as an example:
If you put a boost controler on it will you be able to get more boost out of it, then the spring will allow?
I have always thought that the spring was the final say in the amount of boost, and you can use a controller to tone it down or up to the spring load...
I am still fairly new to the world of turbo's however... But having a blast with em so far!

You have it backwards. The spring has the final say in how LOW you can set the boost to - you can't set it lower than the wastegate spring.

Say you have a 2lb spring. You can run 20PSI with a boost controller, but if you need to, you could turn it all the way down to 2 psi, but no lower.

dinos rite, the spring is how low it goes. i've got a tial and it's great. i've got a 3lb spring in it but on cold nights it will go to 4lbs. my profecB is hooked up to it and that's even more fickle, it's about a 3lb difference between weather. i know that had nothing to do w/ the post, but i'm bored. also my fuel pump has died so i'm a little peved.

here's a pic of my tial wastegate, it's the 35mm one w/ a 40mm hat on it, if anyone can explain that i'd like to know what happened there.

yeah i have no clue, the shop i got it at did everything them selves apparently, i wouldn't even be supprised if my trims were different. i compaired my t3t4 to a friends who has an integra w/ a drag kit, and our compressor's look the same, but the exhaust housing on mine is much smaller than his, and mine spools much faster. i don't get it, don't all t3t4's have the same housings, just different trims? maybe i should make this q. it's own post...

wow that's a really nice setup. Thats on of the best pix you've post mitseclps. Haha the rest of them were either too dark or something. That is really making good use of space there. The star is a little extra room. Not bad emoji looks a little hard to get that dip stick out though without burning yourself hehe emoji

yeah i don't know what happened to the other pics, i've got some more good ones around here somewhere...but thanks, and yeah - it's the angle of the pic, the dipstick isn't as close to the wastegate as it looks, but it still gets hot. i'll try and post some more pics for ya (ones that you can actually make out that they're of a car...)
