#18599, "running 9psi!"

well I have been running 9psi for a little over a week now,I know that I'm pushing it, but everytime I'm at WOT my A/F gauge reads 1.0
so I'm runing really rich! what should I do. I'm going to the dyno on the 5th... but it just seems weird to me that I'm still runing rich at that much psi.

What do your egt's read? If you do not have one, you are playing poker without reading your hand.

I know, I know... my egt is busted, new one will be in on friday....
I run her at 9 psi on ocasion...I was just wondering if it should still run that rich at such high psi. HOwever there is no fuel smell or black smoke...

food for thought- if you run lean, it will most likely be at 6000+ rpm when you are asking your injectors to run at max duty cycle. This is also where the egt(if you do not have big enough injectors/too low fuel pressure)will begin to climb. I have come to believe if it does start climbing at a certain high rpm or when it reaches a certain pound of boost, you are probably detonating and the knock sensor is retarding timing, which causes egt to go higher than it was at low rpm. I believe if you see your max boost 4000-5000 rpm, take note of your egt, if it is 1500-1550(1600max), you are running safely rich(not overly). If this egt stays where it is and does not climb any higher at high rpm(6500-7200), you have enough fuel at that particular boost setting. You could feasibly turn up your boost until the egt gets to 1580F and stays steady at high rpm. When it starts to climb over 1600, turn down the boost or turn up the fuel pressure if your system is not already maxed out.

The bottom end might not take the extra power you are asking from it, but I believe if it goes, it is not from detonating. You can also put some race gas in your tank(not octane boosters)to lower you egt and resist detonation. This is good if you have your boost turned up higher than normal and it climbs over 1600. The higher octane will cause the egt to drop approx 100-150F(2-parts 93 to 1-part C116 leaded race fuel). You can also gain more power, by adding race fuel, because this allows the timing to advance instead of retarding.

This is only my opinion.

but when I hit full boost and am at 6000rpm I still read rich... (I know about the egt temps having to be below 1600F or 900C. would I detonate if I run rich at WOT?
