There is tons of info to be had on crankwalk if you look around. So, since a couple of posts have covered it already, i won't get into it.
If you remember back to the last 4g63 and 420A argument, you'll remember a guy by the name of boostedv8killer. That's my buddy with a 97 GS-T. Well, just to give some news on his car, it got diagnosed with crankwalk last friday, and is gonna be getting a new shortblock put in it soon. And once the car is running again, it will be sold ASAP.
My opinion. turbo 420A...fuel systems suck. 4G63...Everything but the fuel system sucks. I dropped a friekin bolt inside my tranny, cracked the casing, patched it with a beer can and epoxy, used the wrong fluid now, and have been driving around for 300 miles just beating the bejesus out of my tranny. And still, no blown synchros. If i pounded on a 4g63 tranny this way, it would be toast by now.
But, like i said, i don't know how to give you an honest opinion on what to get. What i think would be a great setup for the 300 HP range is stock block till it is in bad shape, a hahn stage II setup, and then buy their accel DFI to controll fuel. Then when you need to have it done to to blow-by or a bent rod, build your motor with pistons and rods.
I think no matter what you do, unless you really enjoy working on your car yourself, you're bound to have headaches with it. if there was a solid cure for crankwalk other than putting a 1g motor in your 2g, i would definitely go for that. But, since there ain't, i don't know what to tell you.
