I dropped my eclipse off at the dealership today w/ a blown headgasket at 52000 miles. I told them i was planning to put a HRC stage II on and they flipped, "that mopar motor can't hold boost it's going to blow" Has any one had a HRC stage II for long period of time, and what should i expect. maintance wise. and performance wise.
Thanx

our powerplants have been proven to take 10lbs. of boost with the HRC kit. So long as you don't run lean, go boost crazy (over 10psi), and keep your egt's down, then I don't forsee a problem. DEALERS ARE ALWAYS SO FULL OF SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dealershits rarely know the first thing about turbos... it's as if they never had a GST in for service... or think that that hairdryer-lookin-thingie is part of the exhaust.

EVERY time I've been in to satan for ANYTHING, including brakes and automatic transmission work... it's the turbo's fault.

They argued with me for a solid week that my shifting problems at 5mph and tiny bits of acceleration (0-5mph) were caused by the turbo. Even though the car had previously been serviced *completely stock* with the same problems.

Yes, it may blow. Yes it will void the hell out of the warranty. So what? The Mitsu warranty is useless anyways, they generally do just enough to avoid being sued. emoji

Speaking of which, I went in to the dealer the other day to pick up a clutch master cylinder for my bro's GSX and I got talking with one of their "mechanics" and he said that in order to turbo my gs I MUST have an ecu from the turbo cars in order for it to work. He got mad when I started laughing at him. I had to walk him over to my car and show him before he would believe me that I had a turbo kit on my car without the 4g63 ecu. Even then he still said that it wasn't working right. I didn't say a word, just got in my car, pulled out of the lot and took off like a bat outta hell. I figured a visual demonstration would help that simple minded hillbilly. Too bad that ecu probably wouldn't even plug into my harness and has completely different sensors etc... What a moron.

What else needs to be said?

Soon, I will do a rebuild just because I want more boost. I really will never know how much boost our engines can hold with the right amount of fuel and timing retard. I guess no one will ever really know that for sure.

i concure that Dan. Dealerships half the time do not know what they are talking about.

Just last weekend while looking for a beater honda, we stopped off at the Riverside Mitsu dealership. One dumb ass sales man (in his 30's) actually have the nerve to try to push a V6 GT on my girl and I claiming it has more power than our modded GST spyder.

the nerve...

Ohh yeah, didnt you know that already? if its a v6, then its automatically more powerful than a 4 cyl. And if you have a v6 and your challenged by a v8, your SOL cause you have a smaller engine, hehe...

Try convincing them that your car never came with a turbo option. The dealer near me spent an hour saying the Avenger DID come with a turbo from the factory. "It shows it right here on the screen" "I've been a mechanic yada yada"
I explained the history and the engine, and how I wanted to talk to the shop manager because all I came in for was a throttle cable. Needless to say they refused to admit they were wrong until the manager came over and looked in the computer. This time under the RIGHT car, (they had been looking at the Daytona the whole time)

The dealer always discourages modifying our cars just because most of their techs don't have a clue about what we've done. Most of them are just Mitsubishi techs, not tuners. One tech at my local Mitsu dealership didn't even know what a boost controller is, let alone a turbo on a n/a car.

As far as going with stage 2, the engine will be fine just as long as there's sufficient fuel and if you don't over boost (easier said than done), just as the others have mentioned.
