#17107, "starion make-up? Modding the IC"

Hey fellas, I got a quick question. What type material is the starion IC made of? I talked with our welding/fab professor today and he said that if it's made of Alum., then it won't weld to the steel pipe I have for it?

Shit is all apart. Typical...

He's right. It's all aluminum. You need to buy a mandrel bent aluminum elbow from www.roadraceengineering.com

Maybe I failed to mention to the guy that pipe was aluminized. I looked at RRE's website and all of the mandrel bends are aluminized steel.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

I looked at RRE's website and all of the mandrel
>bends are aluminized steel.

Not all of them :

Aluminum Intercooler Pipe Bends

2.25" 45 Degree Bend RRE22545AL

$30.00

2.25" 90 Degree Bend
RRE22590AL
Starion I/C
$30.00

2.5" 45 Degree Bend
RRE2545AL

$33.00

2.5" 90 Degree Bend
RRE2590AL

$33.00

Check out the bottom of the page. Trust me on this one. This is what I bought and it's welded to my intercooler right now.

so if i buy aluminum elbows, it would be best to just buy all aluminum pipes as well and weld them all togehter instead of using couplings. im sure i can twist and turn them into place with theam all welded.i could get the whole pipe piece chromed

I would think that using just two couplers and using the rest aluminized pipe would be cheaper. Any exhasut shop can weld it. Aluminum needs to be heli-arced to be welded. I would also bring to attention(I may face myself) that if you weld all the pipes, what happens if you get a fender bender or need to remove the IC for some reason. Life might be hell trying to manuever two giant pieces of pipe to get out of the way. You wouldn't have to worry about blown couplers or leaks too much.
What part # should I use from RRE? Which was the best piece to buy? 2.5 90 degree or 2.25 90 degree??? Thanks
