i knew when i first installed my kit i should have had the hahn turbine housing rustcoated or powdercoated bu ti heard they were already being powdercoated. well mine is completely rusted now, has anyone done anything to theirs (i guess star would be the same) to make them look new again? it was so pretty with the glossy gunmetal coating when i got it. so can i sand it down to make it look right again? or would i have to take it off and send it off to be coated? are there any spray type paints or rust-proof clearcoats i can spray on it by just taping the area off?

yo cyan I made a nice heatshield to cover mine out of aluminum, it looks really nice and polished and on the underside it has 3 layers of thermo-tec insulation to keep the heat away. i'll see if i can get some pictures lates james

James, I think Cyan wants the look similar to those F-max turbo kits...I believe they coat their turbine (not sure about compressor) housing, manifold, downpipe, and IC pipings with ceramic coating to keep heat within the parts as to lower underhood temperatures as well as promoting quicker catalytic lightoff.
It looks really awsome and doesn't burn off like high temp paint will.
Otherwise you can just hide it with a heat shield like Dan Green.

yeah post some pics of yours james, i had a heat shield on my N/A exhaust manifold out of diamond plate aluminum...looked real nice, pics on my site, but i wanna make one now and cant decide where i would bolt the shield to the car? i dont wanna unbolt the manifold again either cause its a bitch to retighten, you know. but post some pics and ill check it out, i got some diamond plate leftover anyway....i just really wanted the turbo to show...it looks better than a shield

I took my manifold and turbine to HPC coating, before installing HRC stage 2 w/fmic, out here in Chandler Arizona. I'm telling you it well worth doing this, it looks so nice & shiny when done. I wish I had some pics to show you guys, maybe later.I got it ceramic coated in the interior and exterior with the shiny look. I would recomend this highly to anyone.

In my line of work i deal with plating and metal finishing facilities all the time, and the only reason that i did not get the turbine housing plated or coated is because you have to research the materials carefully. the iron that the turbine housing is made of has a relatively high expansion rate. if the ceramic coating is not done correctly it will crack due to the low expansion rate of ceramics. so the iron will expand faster than the ceramic and then there is problems. i've seen some parts which are electroless nickel plated and those look pretty good, but they kinda change color when they get hot like stainless steel headers do. i just thought it was easier to make the heat heat shield out of aluminum i bolted it to the top 2 nuts that hold the turbo to the manifold and bent it in a tight circle so it hugs the turbo with some tension and does not move around. lates james

I see. But is there a way to match thermo expansion of turbine housing to a particular cermic coatings? I know you can calculate the rate of metals exapnsion through a formula for avrious materials, but what about the coating it self. ???
