OK, I am back.
To begin, I would like to point out that everyone who has an HRC system has an outlet for their questions: HRC Tech Support. While this board is an excellent resource, nothing comes close to dealing directly with the experts who designed the system and deal with it every day.
That being said, I will provide but one reason why the message board can be misleading: it can give the impression that if one, two, or even several people share their experience on a particular item, that the item in question is therefore experienced by ALL customers. While I am sure that this is not the intent of the posters who merely wish to find a solution, it nonetheless is a possible outcome. With as much effort as we have put into this system, one can imagine our frustration at getting a black eye in such instances, especially if those involved have not fully exploited the Tech Support that we so stridently provide (at no small expense!). To date, we have shipped almost five hundred 420A turbosystems. We stand ready to address and correct issues with ANY of them! Assuredly, we do not have almost five hundred FPR or Fuel Mapper (also referred to as FCD) issues.
I ask any and all who experience or even perceive a problem with their system to first contact us at Tech Support. Three methods exist:
1. Email tech@turbosystem.com. We check it at least once a day. 2. Call 630-801-9065 any weekday afternoon. This is a dedicated line, installed expressly for Tech Support; you will not have to compete with sales or other calls to reach us. 3. Should either of the above prove ineffective for any reason, call our main office: 630-801-1417. Dial Customer Support and they will hook you up!
=============================
Fuel Pressure Regulator: An aspect many may be unaware of is that we have revised our design. Our new Billet design has addressed aspects of idle inconsistency that occasionally surfaced with the previous cast design. Should any owners of cast regulators be experiencing inconsistency, contact Tech Support. We will help you find the cause of the problem (it's not always the regulator itself) and repair or replace the unit under warranty if needed.
Fuel Mapper: I am intriqued by the experiences of Jason ESI-T. Admittedly, I was unaware that he had gone thru three of these. Jason, if you read this, please contact me. I will also try to contact you. To have experienced the same issue three times suggests strongly that the issue may not rest with the mappers themselves; that there may be another interceding aspect that you are unaware of. I would like to help you find and understand this aspect. In doing so, I will not only assist you, I may discover something that we can share with others and/or incorporate into our mapper design. Same goes for anyone else: get with us if you suspect something is up with your mapper or MAP sensor circuit.
Noisy fuel pumps: Yes they are! The ACCEL pump we use has proven to be such a superior and dependable piece that I have resisted the urge to replace it based on noise alone. No, we will not recommend any of the smaller intank units that are hard pressed at the delivery pressures and volumes we specify.
The best bet for those who would like to quiet the pump down: add rubber isolation between the mounting bracket we provide and the car chassis. We opted to provide a secure bracket as opposed to leaving you to your own devices in mounting something as critical as a fuel pump. The bracket design is strong and therefore safe, but it does transmit a large amount of noise into the chassis, where the noise is amplified and reverberates.
In my own RS, I treat the sound as reassurance that my fuel system is ready for action. But I have listened to noisy fuel pumps in hi-po cars for twenty years; I'll admit that my perspective is a bit skewed!
P.S.: You should hear the Weldon pump in our Neon race car! Sounds like a hydraulic pump in a commercial airline. Come to think of it, pilots and A&P mechanics don't seem to mind that noise...
======================== In closing, I'd like to invite any HRC system owner to please contact myself or my staff with any questions, opinions, problems, or even praise (we LOVE to hear it!). We're there, every day, and you will find no other group of people more knowledgeable about your 420A equipped turbocar!
