#15844, "Turbo the Lude"

Have been thinking it over, and have decided to save my money and buy a Turbo kit for the Lude. F-Max.com is the one I am gonna purchase. Its the cleanest kit for the Lude, maybe not the cheapest or most popular, but the cleanest setup. I should have about 220whp at 5psi, and 280whp at about 9psi. It sucks cause I have to wait until I can save up enough money, not only for the kit, but the install as well. Hopefully I will be boosting by time summer rolls around.

95 Eclipse gone, meet the Lude. Now driving 97 Honda Prelude. Fast, but a few mods wouldnt hurt. How about a Cold Air Intake for starters...

No, that is false, atleast to an extent. To much boost can lead to engine failure. Detonation on a high compression engine is really bad, but the F-max kit will give me the option to lower compression ratio by installing a thicker head gasket. Daily driven should be boosting no more than 6psi, and at the track, no more than 9psi with racing fuel, to be safe at least. I am probably gonna run 4psi for everyday driving, and 9psi on racing fuel at the track. Is my H22 engine as boost freindly as your 420a, but it does have plenty of potential, just gotta play it smart.

good luck boosting an open-deck h-series engine....

the h-series has some of the thinnest cylinder walls among honda engines. the open-deck design on the h series doesnt take well to boost. for reliable boost, sleeve it at a minimum.

my friend was gonna boost his, till he started looking into it and nearly every prelude owner he found that had gone turbo had blown, whether it was custom, fmax, drag, whatever. He ended up selling the prelude, and got a 2001 ITR. he boosted it, got hooked, and now has a 10 sec beast. ok, he doesnt have a 10 sec slip, but he makes over 500hp at the wheels and has 130 mph trap speeds emoji

dont wanna scare you, just something to think about...

Your right, atleast about the H22's not be boost friendly. I have been doing some searching, and pistons seem to crack way to easily. For some reason though, nitrous doesnt seem to have that problem? Dont know why, but the H22 is more juice friendly than boost friendly. 10's might not be able to happen, but I bet 11's can. Just gotta decide if I want to go boost or juice, juice is starting to look pretty good again.

has to do with the increased cylinder pressure among other things. Witht he longer stroke of the H22, a lot of the piston's force is actually going sideways into the cylinder walls. when the pressure is increased significantly, bad things happen. somethign has to give, and its usually either a rod or piston, and sometimes broken pieces will go thru the block :0. thats true with any engine, but its way to common on the H series. Its a large part of why Jackson had taken so long to release its SC kit, that thin was supposed to be out 6 months before my friend sold his car, im not even sure its even out yet and its been about a year since he sold it.

if you check out http://www.geocities.com/ryan95i4 thats my club. check the for sale section to see the old 5th gen preludes. the silver one was the one that was gonna be boosted, but he sold it and got the ITR that he boosted. the red one was spraying, 75shot fogger i believe, think he went low 14s with traction issues and a dying 3rd gear synchro, mike sold that and now he drives a BMW M Coupe (or whatever the funky lookin' M car is called, the hard top version of the roadster).

this is not a flame

But he has been on 2gnt from the days on which he had an eclipse. So i for one am actually glad he chose to stay and post on the boards after he changed cars.

He's not the only one either. Klipzracer has sold his eclipses, but he still posts.

So just don't forget that alot of people who post on here with GOOD information are people that no longer drive 2gnts.
