#15205, "Inside of MBC"

I have this BC http://www.ffwdconnection.com/boost_control.htm . it is just like the joep controller. How do these things work in detail? I want to know what the spring inside does. Mine has to hoses connected to it and if you turn the screw on top Clockwise it is supposed to raise the boost and if you turn it CCW it is supposed to lower the boost. These things cant be that complicated. I just dont want to take mine apart to figure this out. I know one of you knows exactly how they work...THANKS

Dave, I 've heard if there's a problem with the spring or anything else inside the boost controller, they will guarantee it and send any replacement parts you may need. They're also very cool about answering any technical questions you might have.

I'd give them a call before opening it up.

This is what the average ball/spring MBC looks like.

If you were so inclined, I'm sure you could duplicate it for $10.

Just add another ball for the FFWD and Joe P, like us they have two. Who else thinks Corbins gonna be rich sooner than later.

The FFWD only has one ball. I took out the screw and only saw the spring no ball.

If your wastegate is set at around 8 psi and you only boost 5 psi should you get a MBC??...All the thing does is bleed air off so that the wastegate doesn't see it - puncture some little holes in the line -viola..more boost!! Seriously don't do that - 20lb boost spikes is a bad thing

From what I understand neither EBC or MBC can lower boost lower than the wastegate threshold.

Why don't you bust a few of those out? I'm sure they'll go together pretty quick and parts are cheap. The profit ratio would be a lot better that the A/F guages.
I see alot of people selling these things for like $25 but I would feel a lot safer just knowing you made it. emoji

Hehe word! Mine is like dave's got the screw and 1 spring no ball. Unless I didn't take a good enough look at it when I took the screw off.

I've considered it several times. I was afraid people would install it wrong and blow their engine; then blame me. You can't really damage the engine with an A/F guage. But if you want, I can experiment a little and make a few MBCs.

Alot of the machinery at work is pnuematic and we got a bunch of Humphrey valves laying around I was thinkin about snagging and tearing apart to give it a shot but I think I would definetly feel safer using one that was "Corbin-ized".
I'll get some part numbers Mon. from a few of the valves and if you can use them, I'd gladly ship them.
Also, any chance on cockpit adjustments?

I was just considering a dual mode controller with some sort of solenoid switch. It would be cockpit selectable of course. Might be too expensive...The cool vs. affordable problem again.

Include a disclaimer, Corbin. Seriously.

I found the one major flaw in the dual spring design: if you increase the boost too much, the spring will buckle. When it happened, the top ball went into the outlet, and the spring got hung and couldn't decompress to get the ball out of the inlet - a perfect, indestructable system for sealing a BC shut. It happened so cleanly i was truly impressed when i dismantled it to fix it. Good thing i was built - those 22PSI runs on the way to work certainly would have been trouble otherwise.

hehehe...sounds like this one kid i know that installed the turboxs mbc adjusted to high the first day he was turbod...hit 20psi on stock injectors, stock intenrals and no IC before 4000rpms...

oh wait...that was me emoji

definitely include a disclaimer, and mark it so its painfully obvious which is in and whish is out. also just make sure they have some way of knowing its at its lowest setting when 1st installed.

the turboxs ones say to adjust the main screw until the ball stops rattling when shaken. thats fine, except the lil aesthetic rubber trim pieces rattle too 80, thats how i adjusted mine so high to start with
