The HRC kit has the turbo outlet pointing sky high:




whereas the Star kit has the turbo outlet pointing downwards...


Are there any disadvantages in either way?

I think it has more to do with the particular turbo being used (Mitsu vs. Garrett) and I don't think it will make a big difference as long as they both have an unrestricted path for exhaust flow.
