alot of it is not many people are running 10psi, launching has a lot to do w/ it as well... how well you shift going down the track.... Traction is a big problem for a lot of people.

traction/launching problems.

If I were to run the 1/4 mile on a real street I bet I would be in the really low 14s. Its so much different launching on the tarmac at the track. It is very sticky and easy to bog the engine. When you have FWD turbo, and especially a turbo the size of the Super 16G or larger, it is very easy to bog the engine and drop out of boost. That is the largest problem I have. As soon as you slip the clutch, the tires spin like mad off the line...so to get some grip you every so slightly let off the gas. As soon as that happens, the wheels grab hard and bog the engine. Turbo stops producing boost, and you end up with a 2.5 60' time emoji sucks.

Just takes a lot of practice to get it right, and unfortunately I don't get to the track nearly enough.

I've seen with the AWD guys that, they have similar MPH in the low to mid 90's like us, but almost a second better ET. It's all in the launch man. Launching a FWD (on street tires) car takes a lot of skill in practice.

Slicks and a LSD wouldn't hurt either. I've seen the times for GS-T's as well, and they're not exactly doing much better than we are at similar MPH's.

*sighs* There's only 1 track close to my house, and it's about an hour drive outside of the city. And it's only open for a few months, cuz it's ither snowed out, rained out or it's just too hot out. +45 daze don't really help 1/4 mile times......

I got a 2.30 60ft which is a pretty good launch. And I only ran a 14.9 @93 mph. I am only at 5 psi though. I think it was discussed last week but a stage 2 at about 7-9psi more than likely will not get you into the 13's. At 9-10psi it is possible. I am going to the track next weekend after I am running 9psi on race gas to see what I can do.

Ya I think a lot of problems have to do with traction. I think a stage 2 that put out 250 hp at the wheels could run 13's WITH slicks. Gst's need about that much hp to hit 13's I think. A GSX needs a lot less power to hit 13's.

9psi on race gas? i think that is a waste of race gas. when u start boosting 14psi+ then race gas might help.

Uhh..actually Kory, 14psi+ on pump gas would kill the 420a. That, or it wouldnt last long. Dont forget the stock compression is 9.6:1. 8-9psi is PLENTY for that compression on pump gas. Race gas at 9 psi would be a safe idea.

Eric C. was running 14 psi on his star stage 2 for a while. I think he ran 10 psi daily, and turned it up to 14 sometimes, all on pump gas. His was one of the longest lasting star kits so far I think (over 2 years before blowing). I think some motors might just be stronger than others, or maybe it was his MSD.

Launching my stock 98 GST was hard to learn. I'm still not real good at it. First time I thought I was leaving the ground. The front shot up and tires smoked. Shifted into 2nd with just about same results. 3rd only spun for a little then finally grabbed. I can't get a real time till spring, and I can't wait!

my thoughts exactly!! so why are you guys with FMICed stage 2's being chicken and only doing 5psi?!?! that's stage 1 psi for crying out loud!!! there are a lot of people running 9-10psi on good ol' 93 octane.

and kory the 10psi makes 265?? horsepower on the 420a which can only hold 300hp and i think that is the reason they can't use race gas and crank up the ponies like we can cause they will exceed thier 300hp mark. please by all means correct me if i'm wrong here peeps.

You are absolutely correct!!!!!!!! I am running 8-9 psi right now. Our engines can handle 9psi but you have to make sure you are getting enough fuel. I am going to tune my car when I get a chance and see how it will run at 8 psi. I might even get some 275cc injectors and then it will run on 9psi safley.

i run 9 psi with fmic and i get 2.2 60' times and best time of 14.7...

traction is crazy. I cringe when i feel all that wasted power going into heat and smoke when the tires spin...
