#14906, "Blew the tranny at Atco today"

So i went to Atco this morning, made one pass of 14.8 (traction was horrible), come in for my second pass, spin through 1st gear, spin through 2nd, catch 3rd and with traction and BAM next thing i see on my rear view mirror are parts of my transmission falling out onto the track. Its bad, the tranny housing is completely shattered all around by where it connects to the engine. engine wont start (starter doesnt even work), spilled tranny fluid all over the track. So now i have to take this guy's car out of my garage and push my car into the garage, and remove the whole engine and tranny. I just hope that the engine is ok. Anyone have any tips where to find a cheap 5speed tranny?

oh what a day. Oh btw, my 60' on the run that i blew the tranny was 1.7 emojiDont ask how or for timeslip as I left it at the track.

you can get a tranny from a junkyard for about 300 bucks...............make sure you have a quaife put in it emoji (look at the bright side 'though.....how many people do you know that makes enough power to GRENADE a transmission emoji )

Is VHT supposed to be that sticky? They sprayed the launch line 1 or 2 cars before me.....my car just seemed to hook so much than before...

I've seen cars break trannies when the track officials spray fresh VHT down. It happened to one of the NEDSM guys in the 2000 shootout. Fresh VHT, laucnhed, heard a loud ping, all the teeth on the gear on the main shaft in the tranny were stripped off.

I have a 5-speed case for sale. It's got a circle carved in it from the diff coming apart, and would need a new output shaft bearing, but other than that it's ok. from the pics it looks like you only need the bellhousing side and that's the good side on my case. To make it good again, it would need the output shaft, bearing, and differential. $50.

WTF?

Ohhhh man.... need to hear the story behind that ^^^ one.

Sorry about the transmission... the guys at RRE swear by the Quaife LSD. I could probably dig up 50 reasons why, but simply... you'll just keep blowing out transmissions with that much power. Get the Quaife, and you wont need to worry about buying a new tranny every time you race.

Got more pictures from under the car. The diff wasnt the problem...it was the modular clutch/flywheel pack! it completely dissiminated (sp?) itself. Check for more pics at www.asog.net/kiku/bustedtrans

Oh about the cow prints...that's my wife's neon...the moocar. Check www.asog.net/kiku i think under moocar or moo/moocar.html and there is a pic of it reassembled.

I hate driving that car now =( since mine is busted...

I dont see how people are jacking up their trannys? on 9psi? I whore my car to 20psi on pumpgas and 26psi on racegas... with a stock for cock tranny... but you have motor mounts that cause more shock to the driveline, and a stage 4 clutch that enguages instantly... guess there's the answer huh? We should be fine with stage 3 axles, quaife lsd, and cm stg 4 clutch, right? anything else needed done when i pull my tranny guys?

So the impression I got was that motor mounts aided in your tranny going because of the torque and the stickyness, etc......if so, then I don't think I'll be getting motor mounts yet.

its hard to say. My tranny has 116k miles on it as well which doesnt help. I think it may have been a combination of traction, lack of slack on drivetrain, and power =/

my recommendation to you is: if you have stock tranny, and you are around 10psi, dont launch that hard or on very high rpm =/
