Whoops.. I guess i was smashin around too much and i didnt even realize that my oil level was below normal.
3rd gear run @ 6200rpm oil light came and + the car stuttered then i shifted to neutral, and the car died. I coasted down to the nearest exit, added 1qt. of oil started the car up again, idled fine but once i revved it up it sounded like it had some marbles under the hood.
Day2: Changed oil (put synthetic) but problem persisted. Appearantly the motor makes these crazy (marble popping) sounds while under load. I am pretty sure this is "piston-rod knock" but im really hoping that its just the valves.
Guess I gotta take my car to mitsu to see if they'll warranty it.
So did Stan2GNT, MuRix, Eric R. and myself. When it starts to get bad you'll also feel it inside your car with the windows up and on your clutch pedal. It will vibrate to the metallic tapping sound. It sounds like its coming from the Cylinder head though.
I was unthankfully served when I found my stock rings were not sealing properly and I had too much blow by which obviously ate my oil and after EVERY 3000 miles I was always short 2 quarts. So (thanx to Eric R.) I dropped my oil pan, let my car sit and drip and discovered metal shavings from the 3rd and 4th cylinder rod bearings. I also saw my conrod bolts stretched. I dumped the heaviest oil into it I could find and drove it back home 30 miles from RRE. A built motor will not suffer this problem though.

Yup. I used oil thickener and drove it till that last ride which at the end sounded like someone dropped a bag of nuts and bolts into the crankcase (started it a day later and just sounded like one rod knocking pretty bad). Definately sounds like you got it (you are taking the turbo off and all evidence before going to the dealer?). I still have fears of it returning and check my oil every few days, not to mention listening for it everyday (which is no easy task with forged pistons. Rod knock sounds simular to piston slap when cold at idle. You can tell the difference when you blip the throttle, thats when rod knock has its own loose bearing clacking qualities). Dont forget Kiku (sebring) had it too and if you ever check the neon board they get it too. Another STOCK esi at the shop I went to had it (and we laugh at 4G63 crank walk. We got our own problem if not careful with maintanence. At least we got a cure).
It's when your lose fitting conrod smacks back and forth against your crankshaft. The most common cause was from too little oil in your engine. Unless you're hitting a gard corner at like 70mph your oil light should not come on. If it does then the damage is done and will take a couple months till you finally start seeing its reward .

You got that right. Once I found out I had it I still drove it like I stole it for another month or two. On that final night when I got the ultimate "reward" (coasting to a stop in front of my job while it was still in one piece) I was provoked into hitting 80+mph by some punk. I new it was going and had started the rebuild process so I didn't really care if it blew. Well shortly after getting off the highway I made it another 3 miles with the "bag of bolts" sound in the crankcase. Power remains suprisingly good til the end.
Brought my ride to Mitsubishi today.. They checked it out and confirmed that it was a "spun rod bearing"... To make matters worse the guy at Mitsu is telling me that I need to provide him with every oil change receipt since my last rebuilt which was at ~45k miles.. Im at 59k right now.. Additionally he said that he does not want to rebuilt it, but just order a short block from mitsu ($3600)
He also told me that they will drop the oil pan and if there are metal shavings most likely factory wont cover the job. So i really dont know what to tell him at this point.

Raise hell and complain how their engine has failed, you need not show any receipts. If the engine is gone it's because of failure, that's all the reasoning they need. I would simply bitch about a faulty engine. That's what's covered and the contract doesn't say you need proof of all this maintainance that's what the warranty is for. Anyway oil change only needs to be like every 7000 mile or so. Just try to find as many as possible

uh oh...was any damage done to me? A while ago, I was going 50km and turned a hard right and oil light flashed briefly on....
