Whats up guys, I'm not sure if any of you guys remember me, but I've been reading posts on here everyday for like almost 2 years now. I don't reply much, because I use this forum for knowledge myself. Anyways, I blew my engine back in November(spun bearing) and have been waiting to build up some cash. I've pulled my engine with the help of a few friends of mine and have been waiting to order my parts. I'm now ready to order and wanted to go through the list with you guys to make sure I didn't miss anything. Here she is:

HRC stage 3 turbo system w/ front mount
Clutchmasters stage IV clutch
3" cat back exhaust
EGT and A/F gauge w/ pod holder
Joe P boost controller
test pipe

Now, as far as the engine work goes, I'm going with the .020" over size pistons and as close to stock compression I can get. I'm having the engine balanced and blueprinted and having some minor crank work done(anything else I should do?) Now for a couple questions:

1. The HRC kit does not come with bearings, so I will have to get those somewhere, where do you recommend? (Attn: Dino, I've got a 95 so let me know what I've got to get)
2. Gaskets, do you guys think I should order up the whole gasket kit for the engine?
3. When it comes to bolting up my 3" test pipe to the HRC downpipe, how is that gonna work. Will I need to get some sort of flange or something?
4. How does that HRC powerfuel module work? Is it hard to tune, or will it already come pre-tuned for the 500cc injectors?
5. And last, when it comes time to drive my car, how do you guys recommend to break it in. Should I drive with no boost at all, and then gradually increase?

I'm looking for help from all of you guys who have already been through this. I know there are a bunch of you guys so help a brotha out! I'm not some punk kid who just got his wish list for his car. I've had this car for 3 and a half years now. I've been modding it for the past year or so and I just want to make sure I do this right! You guys are the best, and I look for help nowhere else! Sorry for the long post, and I appreciate all the help you guys give me!

The easy way (and the way HRC recommends) is to use stock 95 bearings. To some this is unacceptable (stock bearings suck!), but with the 95's, if you want to use Clevite 77, or Federal Mogul, or any of the bearings that HowellAutomotive sells, you have to buy TWO sets of MAIN bearings, and use the TOP halves out of both sets. The good thing about it, you end up with a 360* oil groove for all of your main bearings. This means your mains and your rods get more oil. The only detraction i've seen is that you reduce the available load bearing surface of the bearing. I believe the Clevite's are a bit wider than stock anyway.

I can only answer two of your questions.

As far as the gaskets go you should just get all new ones. That way you don't have to worry about it.


And for the break in period. All the 4g63 guys I know trun the boost down to 4-5 pounds, and make sure you use mineral oil durring the break in.

Unless the stage 3 kit comes with a different downpipe than the stage 2, you will need to make your own downpipe for the car. The configuration HRC uses is a pipe that goes from the turbine housing to the stock dp where you hack it with a saw. So it would be in the best interest to have an exhaust shop bend some 2.5-3" pipe for you.

You got to be kidding me! The HRC kit doesn't come with a bigger downpipe? I didn't know about that. Does anyone make one that would fit my application(HRC S16G)? All the shops around me pretty much suck, and nobody does mandrel bending, it would have to be press bent . And Dino, how much does a set of the Clevite bearings cost? Just thought you may know. like $30 or something? Not much.. better quality and cheaper than stock.
