#13516, "New downpipe & Exhaust"

Well, I have never been so happy with a mod as getting my exhaust reworked... man I tell you what, I dont know how I didnt get to this earlier... I had a HRC 2 1/4'' downpipe or some shit, that went for about 1 foot, then ran into the factory paiping, going to a factory gutted cat, and then the greddy catback. well, today I had a 3'' downpipe custom made, mandrel bent n' all, it looks really killer, 3'' flex section and then bolted up to the greddy catback.... I am like kick ass you know, but I said fuk it, lets do it right the first time you know... so the catback came off and Tachyon Performance mandrel bent me a 4'' straight back baby! no muff 4 me. This fucker spools 20x faster, has a hell of a lot more power, and I can finally dyno tune! yippie.! I would boost 10psi on stock boost levels, now its 13.8psi, now I should finally be able to get some higher boost runs. I'll post some pics tomorrow when i get my digital camera back... looks sweet.

BTW, all of the IC piping is 2 1/2'' now, and no more rubber elbows, but it'll be a month or more before i get it all powdercoated, but it looks a lot better, and is a lot more reliable, no more blown out elbows.

Does hrc make a 3" downpipe? Or do you have to have one custom built like you did?

HRC will sell you a 3" downpipe if you want one, but on any downpipe for our car keep in mind it will still be 2.25 coming off the first bend from the turbo. That is not a big deal though.

yep, right around there.... spools so much faster now, and it pins me back more now, but bad new to the clutch, its about shot... slips now and then around 20psi some runs, and some runs its fine... what kinda clutch should i get this time? i just spent around a grand at the shop having stuff done this week, so i am tapped out, wish i had a fulltime job, or had the time to between all the classes... i want a clutch that is totally streetable still, but can hold up good and last fairly long... what do you have murix? armond? guess bill probably has a hahn clutch, huh? emoji

Then i'd recommend a clutchmasters stage 4.. My CFDF slips like crazy. How about you buy one, and buy me one too while you're at it?

ACT doesnt list a clutch for the 420a? Is that right? I always liked ACT stuff. I guess its Cluth Masters, but i want something that will hold that damn boost... so then i can have fun breakin' axles too...

You may want to look locally, I have heard of people finding local clutch shops to build Kevlar 6 puck clutches for around 1/2 of what a CM Stage 3 or 4 would cost you. You may also want to look in to getting a 95 non modular setup so you can get a Fidanza lightened flywheel.

I went through seveal clutches myself with the same crap you did. I am now in the understanding only one clutch made right now can hold the boost. Both Armond and I are using the same CM IV with stock flywheel and it holds well. So far 385fwhp with 0 slipping on Armonds car. It is the same one Len uses and Bill as well. In fact it is what HRC would sell you. A bit grabby and on off but you get used to it. I really wish ACT would come out with a 2400-2600# clutch for us. I would rather use them as well.
