#13217, "what stand-alone?"

a turbo kit is some where in my future, so i was thinking that i would start saving up now for forged internals and maybe bigger injectors to compliment it. and i know that most guys on here dont dont have a stand-alone fuel computer, and just use an afc to do the work. but i was thinking if i had the time what computer would i get. extreme sells the haltech one but alot of people use the tec-2. have any of you stage 3-4+ guys tried one? or wich one would you suggest? thanks.

When you start getting up to Stage 3 from HRC you get the internals,
Stage 4 you get the Accel DFI and larger injectors too.

True but even thats not a stand alone. TECII and Haltech control all ignition and fuel functions independent of the stock ECU. I dont think anyone has done it on a 420A DSM but I know its been done plenty on neons. Its probably a bit of a headache unless you plan on turning your car into a true race car but I guess if you want to rev past 7200rpm you dont have a choice.

I was looking into the Haltech and Michael is looking into the Electomotive TEC-3 for stand alone useage. I knew the DFI wasn't complete standalone with our car but it's still a lot more adjustable than the stock ECU. emoji

AEBS in Cali tols me to go with the sts I think it stands for stand alone Technology Systems. But I think someone earlier nailed it, this set up is for the hard core daily driven street racer with the laptop in the passenger seat an all. They use it on all there cars. They also said with STS at 9 psi I would be up over 300hp. later mike

stage BIG custom mj racing turbo set up, built block.worked head, all tial components, hks evcez, spearco 992,oh yeah and a huge bottle in the trunk last run all turbo 13.8@108 no nos dyno'd at AEBS in Cali with 300+ hp to the wheels

Nope. Just a DFI.

It would be a stand alone if we had a distributor. The DFI does not understand distributorless so we leave in the stock computer to handle timing. All fuel is controlled by the DFI.

But if we install other sensors it will handle out timing correct? Thats what I thought that I understood from Gary's post about denonation and tuning.

Stand alone units are a bitch to setup correctly and a even bigger bitch to have tuned correctly... Too much money unless you have plenty to blow.
