I have been seeing the Conquest/Starion FMIC. on ebay
I have the HRC on a 96 Avenger.
How well would this work?
Would it fit ok?
I have the HRC SM, should I just stick with that or is the Starion one and upgrade from the HRC SM?

It would work well. I have the exact same HRC stage 2 piping with some custom extensions. Many people on this board are using the same intercooler. Since you already have the stage 2 piping, the change in intercoolers would be a lot easier.

>Would it fit ok?

Fits great. Minimal modification is necessary to the bumper.

>I have the HRC SM, should I just stick with that or is the
>Starion one and upgrade from the HRC SM?

The starion may cool a little better with its "front mount" location, but I'm sure the HRC sidemount is more efficent with less pressure loss and probably an ability to cool more CFM's without heat soak. Tough call, but I preferred the front mount b/c I'm vain. A hard core enthusiast who's looking for every bit of HP avaialable could make a strong argument for sticking with the HRC sidemount.

Keep the sidemount.

The Starion is only an upgrade if you have no IC to begin with emoji I guarantee the HRC sidemount flows better with less lag and less pressure drop than s Starion IC fab'd onto our cars.

Jason you say you have those pipes on the car or extra?
Right now I don't have any pipes I bought the SM from someone who upgraded.
So if you or anyone has these pipes I will take them

Ahh, I assumed that you have the HRC stage 2 straight out of the box. B/c if you had, that would make any conversion over to a FMIC really quite simple.

You'll have to totally custom fabricate your IC piping for any application now. And as others have said, although the starion looks nice, but the HRC sidemount is probably almost twice as efficient and capable.

I was going to order the pipes from Hahn, but Armond (Avenger ES-T) told me that those pipes wouldn't fit in my car because I have ABS and the location of the ABS block is in the way (under the fuse box)

has anyone else had this problem??
Is there an alternative??

If that's where the factory puts the ABS ecu, then he's right, cause that's exactly where my IC piping is routed.

But all of this is moot anyways, b/c for what I think is a very silly decision on HRC's part, they do not sell their piping individually without the intercooler. They have their reasons that the piping is only manufactured for actual intercooler orders, and perhaps also the demand for them, but I think many people would love to buy a set.

Anyhow, you're pretty much relegated to having make your own custom set, or perhaps call Wyatt(STAR). I think he can sell them for around $300 which is too much in my mind.

WEll actually I called Hahn a while back and they said they would sell them to me.
I never called them back.
I just got off of the phone with Brad in sales and he is fine with selling the pipes alone, It is 250 for the three pipes, the elbows (silicone) and the clamps. i asked him would my ABS be in the way and he said wait, I've never heard of putting a SM on a car with ABS and he said that it was true but he wants me to call tech tomorrow and ask them, before he sells me this stuff.

What do you guys think?
Is it possible or could I use at least some of the pipes and reroute them right in front of the fuse box where the air box used to be??

it would be crammned in there.

Help me out people, I want to turn the boost up but I don't feel like doing all that custom crap.....i am no good at it.

The intercooler isn't that bad, it's pretty meaty for a junkyard intercooler. The starion boosts something like 14 psi so you know when you fabricate it should flow even better. I got 1 psi of pressure loss from it, that's average isn't it? Hehe for price to performance ratio it's worth it. I'm like damn 800 dollars for pipes and an intercooler! With that starion intercooler probably cost me probably 200-300 bux total. I got the piping, intercooler, and couplers from the junkyard for peanuts. Hehe sure eats up your time and gets your hands and clothes dirty going there though ^_^

I honestly think you woudl be better off dropping your car off at a professional shop and letting them figure something out. it took me about 4 or so months to figure out how I was going to run piping to my FMIC because of the abs block. FWD eclipses usually DON'T have abs (I woudl say about 95% don't). I would say about 30% of avenger/sebring 4 cyl cars DO. you can order the pipes if you want to, but you will just end up beating yourself over the head with them becuase they won't work. just trying ot save you a headache that I have already went through.

bring it on............
