#12527, "HRC Stage 2 goin' in!"

The local shop is putting my HRC Stage 2 kit in right now. Should get it back later tonight or tomorrow morning. They are also putting on a new exhaust too....so tomorrow I should be boosting! God I can't WAIT! I'm going to run it at 7 psi right now...if my engine does well after break in of turbo and pushing it...I'll up it to 8 pounds. Then I'll buy the rebuild kit....then up the boost to about 9-10 psi...then go to a Stage 3. emoji Those are my plans so far. Also, a quick question to anyone that knows: I have a stock clutch and transmission...do I need to replace BOTH? Or will just replacing the clutch suffice for now? TIA guys!

You do not have to replace the trannny ever. The clutch may go bad after a while but they have been known to last a while even under 7 psi. When it starts slipping then you know you need a new clutch.

wouldn't it be better to break it in at more around 4-5 psi?? and i plan on running 9 or so after breakin as well (my turbo goes on the 26th). w/ the bottom end kit from howell couldn't you push more than 10 psi? and what else do you need to go to a stage 3?

here's what my kit is costing, just to let everyone know as a compairson.
it's a custom intercooled kit...built, installed, and tuned for 4500$.
it's a little more than 3k for the parts, and the rest is for the installation and tuning, they have the car a lil less than a week. here's some of the parts

t3t4, custom exhaust mani, 3" down pipe, all intercooler pipes, spearco intercooler, tial bov, tial wastegate, vortec fuel...and i have a greddy profecB, tt, and autometer boost gauge sitting in my living room rite now.

...that and since my headers (greddy 4-1 STAINLESS STEEL headers) rusted for some odd reson, the owner of the shop got greddy to refund them under warrantee, and since the turbo is going on and i dont' need the headers, the shop is just going to sell them as new (which they will be after we send them back to greddy) and i get about 400 off the turbo upfront (so like 4100...then minus my sold intake and nitro system...3500...doesn't look too bad, i'll post dyno charts around the new year...) finally see what's better, kit or custom.

does anyone have a "custom" kit (as in not star or hrc) that has been dynoed? it'll give everyone a nice compairson. so yeh, look for it in like 2 weeks or so...a week and a half.

I would have done the install myself, but I'm not even close to being able to pull something off like a turbo install. So I had to get it installed professionally. Heh, oh well. I added up my total install. This install includes the install of the turbo, tuning of the system, and welding together a custom exhaust then isntalling it...the total price for all that is: $3800. Not bad if you ask me. The shop is the local import shop here and they cut me some deals and got me things at discounts and all this shit. The owner who had a low 14 sec. 200SX and has a 240SX (currently converting it to a full blown Silvia) and a nice ass Maxima (yes he's a Nissan fan) told me he made no money on the sale of the turbo, he's making his money on the install. So overall, I'm very pleased with the price after everything they've done for me.

yeah, yours is cheaper than mine, but it's a different setup, mine's not a premade kit. either way, i agree w/ you totally. i *probably* could have installed a turbo (i helped my friend do a drag kit on his integra, not TOO bad, but we were also very lucky). i opted to be safe, rather than sorry...
